Doc!!!!!
You're confused, self protection jamming is intended to deny a single hostile tracking radar the ability to achieve a lock. This the Rafale can do, escort jamming is the ability to deny all enemy radars the ability to detect, track and lock any aircraft in your formation. The Rafale cannot escort jam in lay person parlance, it cannot electronically protect the air assests it escorts neither can it electronically attack and disable / destroy hostile emitters.
If Rafale does not have the capability for escort jamming, how did it enter heavily defended Libyan air space by Libyan air defense undetected?
If it was only self protection jamming, at least Libyan forces came to know that some bogies were in their air space. Though they were not able to get a lock on Rafales, they could have ordered their jets to scramble for interception. So far, there were no news of air combat in Libyan campaign and all LAF jets were destroyed at the ground. There were not aware that Rafales were coming. Only French air force were participated in Libya at the beginning..
