KARACHI - Two operatives of banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were killed in a shootout, while two policemen were wounded when a police mobile came under a bomb attack in Karachi on Sunday.
Officials said TTP operatives Abdullah and Wahabullah were killed in an encounter in Baldia Town. The terrorists had escaped from Mochko police station. Disclosure about their arrests had come a couple of days ago in a news conference addressed by District West police chief DIG Javed Odho.
The two terrorists had been charged with killing at least 16 police officials and four police informers in SITE area.
According to SHO Shafiq Tanoli, the militants broke out through the windows. He said the policemen present at the police station at the time of escape had been taken into custody for questioning.
Tanoli said the TTP militants escaped to their hideout in Raess Goth area and as soon as a police mobile reached there a pitched gunbattle ensued. As a result, both the terrorists were killed, he added. Investigation into the jailbreak is in progress. Two policemen were also injured in the encounter, according to the officials.
Meanwhile, a police patrol came under an attack in Metrovil area. Police officials said at least two armed men riding a motorcycle escaped after hurling a bomb at a police mobile. As a result, two policemen, Gulzar and Fahim, were fatally wounded. The injured cops were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where they were said to be out of danger.
Meanwhile, police and Rangers claimed to have apprehended 31 suspects including a doctor who had provided medical treatment to an accused of attacking the house of advocate Abdul Maroof.
Police have arrested three accused on the information provided by Shahid aka Munna who was apprehended when he was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Gulistan-e-Jauhar late on Saturday.
However, the police said the accused was arrested from a private clinic in Korangi Crossing area. Shoaib, Nasrullah and clinic’s owner Dr Akbar were arrested by Clifton Division Police on Sunday. Being tipped off, Shoaib and Nasrullah were arrested for providing weapons to Shahid and his companions who were injured in crossfire when they were trying to barge into the house of advocate Maroof on November 21.
On the other side, as many as 28 more suspects including gangsters affiliated with various political parties were apprehended during the ongoing targeted raids in the metropolis.
The targeted raids were conducted in various localities including Mira Naka, Gulshan-e-Bunair, Ehsanabad, Dawood Challi in Landhi, FC Area, Gulshan-e-Ghazi, Korangi, Khosa Goth, Baloch Para Lane and Lyari areas while snap-checking was also carried out in Baldia Town, Nazimabad, Joria Bazaar and Football Stadium in Lyari areas. Sources in Rangers said that at least eight gangsters associated with different Lyari groups were also among the accused apprehended during raids at Khadda Market and its surrounding areas. The sources further said that five gangsters who were identified as Amir Lakho, Mohammad Tariq, Noor Mohammad, Kashif and Asif were associated with Wasiullah Lakho group of Lyari gangsters, Ali Raza of Umar Kutchi group and Mohammad Farooq of Badhshah Khan group and Abdul Qadir of Ustad Taju group were among the arrested gangsters.
According to Rangers spokesperson, at least 28 outlaws including Lyari gangsters and criminals affiliated with political groups were arrested. He said heavy weapons were also recovered from their possession while further investigation was underway.
