Two Pakistani women among young global leaders

By Khalid Hasan

WASHINGTON: The World Economic Forum has named two Pakistani women, one a film producer, the other a politician, as Young Global Leaders.

They are Munizae Jahangir, film producer and human rights activist, and Hina Rabbani Khar, a former federal state minister. The total number of those chosen, all under the age of 40, is 245.

The Young Global Leaders for 2008 include 121 business leaders, as well as leaders from government, academia, the media and society at large, from 65 countries. The new class represents all regions, including East Asia (64), Europe (58), Middle East and North Africa (12), North America (45), South Asia (24), sub-Saharan Africa (21) and Latin America (21).

It speaks well for Pakistani women in general to be honored at an International level for their professionalism but I supect most Pakistani members on this forum will not be happy. What an irony !

The first lady is the daughter of Mrs A Jahangir the head of the Human Rights and hates the Gen M. She appears frequently on BBC and is highly regarded in UK. Must read the old posts about her on this forum. She is hated by most pakistanis on this forum. The irony is that her daughter Munizae is an journalist for an Indian news channel. (no mention of this in the news article)

Guess in some ways the ties between Pakistan and India are much better than what some members here wish it to be.

Regards
