Two Nigerians Held As Two Inter-State Drug Gangs Busted

Delhi police today claimed to have busted two inter-state drug syndicates with the arrest of four persons, including two Nigerian nationals, and the recovery of 5.5kg heroin valued at Rs 13 crore on the international market.

The first gang was busted by the Special Cell of Delhi Police with the arrest of Tamanna (30) and Mohd Qurban (21), both residents of Bawana.Three kilograms of heroin, with an approximate value of more than Rs 8 crore, was recovered from the duo.

"There was information about drug trafficking by the syndicate. Specific information was received on Tuesday that a member of the syndicate had gone to Jharkhand to procure a big consignment of heroin and was returning to Delhi on the Malda Express train.

"A team rushed to Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, from where the cops boarded the train and tried to trace the drug trafficker.

"He was apprehended on Wednesday near New Delhi railway station and 2kg heroin was recovered from his possession. He was identified as Tamanna," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.During interrogation, Tamanna disclosed that he had gone to Jharkhand upon the directions of one Qurban to buy heroin from a contact in the Sahebganj district of the state.Police then managed to trace Qurban who was nabbed with 1kg heroin.

The duo disclosed that they used to supply drugs to a woman in Sonepat, Haryana, and to another woman at Sadar Bazar here. The said women would sell the heroin in the Bawana and Sadar Bazar area. The second drug bust, by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police, saw two Nigerian nationals, identified as Ifeaneyi (34) and Progress (36), being caught with 2.5kg of fine quality heroin, which has an international value of Rs 5 crore.

"ACP KPS Malhotra received an input that Ifeaneyi, who used to supply heroin in wholesale, would be coming near Rithala Metro station to make a delivery to one of his contacts."A trap was laid and Ifeaneyi and Progress were caught with 2.5kg heroin," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ravindra Yadav."(Ifeaneyi) is engaged in wholesale supply of heroin and cocaine in Delhi. He supplies the contraband to his fellow nationals who then sell it in retail quantities."He gets the supply from a person code-named Joe, who is also a Nigerian national and normally resides in Goa.

"He disclosed that Joe had delivered 3kg heroin to him in Delhi, of which he delivered 500gm about 3 days back to a Nigerian youth who resides somewhere in south Delhi. He was apprehended before he could deliver 2.5kg heroin to Progress," Yadav added.Ifeaneyi and Progress were residing in the Vikas Puri area here.

Progress told police that he came to India in 2012 and was engaged in fake lottery scams. However, as that scheme failed to take off, he entered the drug business. He told police that the 2.5kg consignment was for drug traffickers in Punjab.

Information regarding the Goa links of this gang is being shared with the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Goa Police, said Yadav.
