2 girls gunned down in Kashmir - CNN.com

Srinagar, India (CNN) -- Authorities were searching Tuesday for suspects who gunned down two teenage sisters in a north Kashmir town.

The sisters, ages 19 and 17, were killed in the town of Sopore, in what police called the first killing by militants this year after a violent summer of clashes.

The protracted summer unrest last year claimed 110 lives and left hundreds others wounded.

The young girls were marched out of their home by gunpoint Monday night, police said.
"The militants later shot them in cold blood," Sopore police chief Altaf Khan said, "The bodies of the slain sisters were found some distance away from their home. A manhunt has been launched to nab the murderers, two of whom we have already identified."

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the killing.

Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants tonight shot dead two sisters after dragging them out of their house in Sopore town of North Kashmir's Baramulla district, the first major strike targeting civilians this year.

Arifa and Akhtar, daughters of Ghulam Nabi Dar, were gunned down by three militants, including a Pakistani, at around 10 PM at Muslim Peer in Sopore town, 52 kms from here, Superintendent of Police Sopore Altaf Ahmad told PTI.

According to preliminary investigations, the three Lashkar militants barged into the house and forcibly took the girls, aged between 16 to 18 years, police said."The girls were later shot dead by the militants near the Ziarat (shrine) Rahim Sahib. One of them was shot in the left eye," Ahmad said, adding their bodies were found near their house.

It could not be immediately ascertained why the militants had targeted the sisters. The police officer said the local militants involved in the killing have been identified as Wasim Ganaie and Muzaffar Naikoo. Both the ultras are among 'A' category militants and carry a cash reward on their heads. This was the first incident of civilian killings by militants in the Kashmir Valley this year.

This is basically propaganda the fascist indian occupation forces are attempting to discredit the valiant Mujahideen. Probably murdered by the infamous indian Nazi style forces.:)

This cooked up article would have been best suited to the Bollywood Movies.

You can have your opinion but you cannot have your own facts.

Sopore :Alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba militants shot dead two daughters of a poor manual labourer after abducting them from their home in the Muslim Peer area of Sopore town this evening, police said.

“The militants killed the two sisters, Arifa, 17, and Akhtar, 20, after kidnapping them from their home,” Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, S M Sahai, told The Indian Express. “We are investigating.”

According to the police, three militants, two of whom were locals, barged into the home of Ghulam Nabi Dar, who works at a government ration depot, around 8 pm when he was away at the mosque for prayers. “The militants forced the two young women to accompany them, and shot them by the road half a kilometre away in the Raheem Sahib neighbourhood,” said an officer.

“Our preliminary investigations suggest that the militants were acting as a moral brigade that wanted to punish the sisters,” said the officer. The police have identified two of the militants, he said.

'Freedom fighters' ---- anyone ???

Bloody cowards, unable to show their bravery with Sec.forces ,displaying their manliness on unarmed women.

Will we see another repeat of the massive rallies that we witnessed post-Shopian death of two girls ??

---- I dont think so as the killers in this case were 'freedom fighters'. If any one dares protest, tomorrow night he will be the recipient of their bullets.

"May Allah grant peace to the souls of Kulsooma & Rehana , their family the strength to deal with this tragedy & us strength to learn from it. If you can ' t condemn the killing of these two girls , irrespective of your political beliefs & do so without qualifying it then shame on you ."- omar abdullah

Sopore killings: Angry Omar Abdullah lashes out

Sopore: Suspected militants shot dead two teenage sisters from North Kashmir town of Sopore after kidnapping them on Monday.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah strongly condemned the killing of the two sisters. He wrote on his twitter page, " If you can't condemn the killing of these two girls, irrespective of your political beliefs & do so without qualifying it then shame on you."

Speaking to reporters, Abdullah said, "Why this was done, I find it difficult to understand. Obviously no one has the guts to take responsibility and this brings out the contradictions in Kashmir. If there was the slightest indication of high handedness of the forces today the whole valley would have been up in flames but since terrorist are involved, condemnation, if any, is muted. All kinds of violence has to condemned."

The two girls, aged 19 and 17 were reportedly dragged out of their homes in front of their family and shot dead just half a kilometre away from their home.

No militant group has claimed responsibility for the incident yet. There have been no protests following the incident and Sopore town remains relatively calm.
