LAHORE: Peshawar Zalmi captain Darren Sammy and his teammate Marlon Samuels have agreed to travel to Pakistan if their team qualifies for the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

According to sources, the two West Indian players have given their consent to Zalmi’s management to play the final in Lahore on March 5.

On the other hand, Islamabad United has suffered a major setback as their foreign imports Shane Watson, Ben Deckitt and Brad Haddin are unwilling to come to Lahore.

Sources add that foreign commentators including Alan Wilkins and Dany Morrison have also turned down a PCB’s invitation to cover the mega event in Pakistan.

In another setback, PSL’s UK-based broadcaster Sunset+Vine has refused to cover the final in Lahore.

Will Australian cricketers risk their lives for $65,000 in Pakistan?

Australian cricketers and support staff in the Pakistan Super League will have to make a call within days as to whether they are prepared to risk their safety and play in the Twenty20 final in Lahore.

Dean Jones, the coach of Islamabad United, and players Shane Watson and Brad Haddin are among those who could make the trip from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates - where the PSL has been staged - to the trouble spot that is Pakistan, where terrorist attacks have claimed more than 100 lives in recent weeks. A suicide attack in Lahore killed 13 a fortnight ago.

The Punjab government has endorsed the March 5 final being held in Lahore.

It's understood the Islamabad players and staff have yet to discuss the possible trip with security experts, and won't do so until after Wednesday's semi-final against the Karachi Kings. However, it's understood Haddin and Watson are unlikely to participate in the final should United make it.

Officials are tempting foreign players with special one-off payments of up to $65,000 to participate in the final.

Pakistan Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has reportedly said "fool-proof" security would be provided.

Pakistan great Imran Khan, who heads the main opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, told local media it was "madness" to stage the final in Lahore.

He took to Twitter on Tuesday and added: "No one wants int cricket to return to Pak more than me. But staging the PSL final in Lahore carries huge risks with no benefit at all.

"And God forbid if any mishap happens we can say goodbye to int cricket in Pak for the next decade

"A match played under a tight security ring around the stadium will exaggerate Pak's security issue."

PSL officials have assembled a list of possible foreign replacement players should the Australians and other non-Pakistan players, including England and Melbourne Stars pair Kevin Pietersen and Luke Wright, and Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, who were on the Sri Lankan team bus when it was attacked in Lahore in 2009, not make the trip.

Travel advice from Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade urges Australians "to reconsider your need to travel to Pakistan due to the unpredictable security situation, including the high threat of terrorist attack, kidnapping and sectarian violence".

Yes But Whats the Point in playing only the Final only when other players who performed in the Series should be swiped with other players
Yes if they want to support there team and Stand up They should play for the whole series and perform there to make sure there Team Performs
other just Sit this one out like others simple

. . .
I think the fear of foreign players is greatly misplaced. Whole of Pakistan wants to see foreign players play and will provide best of the security to these players. Giving protection to a few dozen players for one event is not going to be that tough for a nation like Pakistan with big army and intelligence to support.

. . . . .
The player association has no real purpose but to hinder cricket in Pakistan
Pakistan should remove itself from this organization

It is rediculous that we can have Head of states come visit Pakistan from Turkey or other important delegates from all the navies of world and yet we can't have crickiters come to play cricket

Every day hundred or thousand planes land daily in Pakistan , people all over the world land and they ride in normal taxies or limos or with their relatives with no protocol

No one should have any excuse since Military has provided proper security

Hey Margarita, what do you think the return of international cricket would bring to Pakistan?
Does it really matter what I think? What matters is what these foreign players think about going to Pakistan to play cricket. And in any case, there would be a few foreigners, especially from poor countries, coming to Lahore for finals, which in itself is a good progress, but as Imran Khan said "A match played under a tight security ring around the stadium will exaggerate Pak's security issue."

There is no need for PSL to forcefully bring final to Lahore given the precarious security situation in Pakistan. It is a long way before international cricket returns to Pakistan irrespective of PSL final in Lahore. This will change nothing for Pakistan. Forget $65000, I will think twice before visiting Pakistan in current situation even if I am offered $1 million.
