QUETTA: Two Chinese nationals working in Pakistan were abducted from Quetta’s Jinnah Town on Wednesday.
According to police, unidentified abductors forced the two foreigners into a vehicle at gunpoint and drove away. A passerby was reportedly injured after one of the abductors opened fire.
“A Chinese couple has been kidnapped and their personal guard was injured during the incident,” Anwar ul Haq Kakar, Balochistan’s spokesperson, said.
According to witnesses, the unidentified men tried to abduct three of the foreigners, two women and one man. However, one of them managed to escape.
Police have cordoned off the area and begun the search operation to arrest the kidnappers.
Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri has asked for an immediate inquiry into the abduction. Zehri directed the Balochistan IGP to take immediate steps for an early recovery of the missing Chinese workers.

He further directed that a standard operating procedure (SOP) be designed for ensuring the safety and security for all the foreigners working in the province.
Jinnah town is considered to be on of the affluent residential areas of the city.
China’s ambassador to Pakistan and other officials have urged Islamabad to improve security, especially in Balochistan, as it is building a new port and funding roads as part of the $57 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that will connect western China with Pakistan’s Arabian Sea coast.

In March this year, Balochistan higher education secretary Abdullah Jan was abducted from Quetta’s Wahdat Colony. Jan’s son Mohammad Attiuqe said his father was on his way to work when unidentified armed men in a white Toyota Vitz kidnapped him near his house in Wahdat Colony 3rd stop Brewery Road area of Quetta.
