The dead are 18-year-old Md Sohel and 17-year-old Harun-Ur-Rashid, residents of a village in Moheshpur Upazila.

Prahalad Haldar, a ward member of Nepa Union in the district, said the incident was reported to him around 9am Tuesday.

A patrol team of Nadia-based BSF opened fire after the boys crossed the zero point into the Indian territory on Monday night, said local witnesses.

The two died on the spot, they said.

When contacted, Border Guard Bangladesh or BGB said a flag meeting had been called.

BGB Jhenaidah 58 Battalion's Director Lt Col Zillur Rahman said details would be disclosed after the flag meeting.

Illegals get what is waiting for them.

Time to start shooting illegal Bangladeshis in India.

Killing civilians is an act of a coward. Why you dont capture them and send to your local jail? There are more dangerous borders worldwide than this but we hardly hear of regular killing like this.

"boys crossed the zero point into the Indian territory"
Maybe they were armed and warned before firing, lets first wait for official comments from both sides before passing judgement. I would say Bangladesh should do the same to those illegal poachers in their area. Bangladeshi or Indian kill them on sight when forcing entry illegally.

Human life sure is cheap in India.
We already got 7bn+ population, earth can sustain 10bn and no one going to take initiative in India or SEA to curb population anyway, so its cheap in my opinion.

Fair enough.

It really isn't rocket science.

You would do the same If it were not Bangladesh? Say it were Pakistan or China? What you would do in that case? Capture them first or Shoot them on first sight?

There are many border areas between India and Bangladesh where there are no sign of fence or any caution sign like I have seen one in Comilla-Tripura border. The only way to trace that If you see BSF-BGB Jawans otherwise there are no sign.

First you have to make the (absolute neutral) case that these two was shot on first sight with absolutely no warning and provocation (which media never has access to fact wise).

Many times illegals and smugglers carry weapons and have injured and killed BSF personnel (and border civilians on Indian side too), so the border area people should know better how BSF treats the border situation in particular areas.

This philosophy would extend to all other border areas of India. Pakistan and China just do not have a critical mass of civilians engaged in smuggling (including smuggling themselves) in close proximity with the same level of porosity prevalent (IND-BD border)...hence fewer Pakistanis are killed (and those that do tend to be actual terrorist infiltrators which come under different ambit)...and 0 Chinese are killed more or less.

Of course where possible, given the situation, India would prefer capture and return compared to shooting (and hence we see examples of this many times a year in say IND - PAK international border and even LoC)....but the situation in criminal hotspots is what it is (LoC infiltration routes, BD-IND border portions), BSF has to put its own security first and foremost.

In the end, like I said, its not rocket science for BD civilians to give these spots on the border a wide berth.

BD is also welcome to enforce such from its end where it locates such hotspots, but BD probably knows they will just end up shooting mostly BD people returning to BD....let's face the reality here.

All the Indian neighbors are not safe and even has no cordial relations with any neighbor. Bangla claims to have good and friendly relations with India. So take the bodies as gift from India. If Bangla remains silence even on such incident than I will just say shame on bangla...
