Two Americans among 5 killed in Peshawar suicide blast | The Nation
Five persons including two Americans were killed and nineteen others injured in a suicide attack outside the office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Peshawar on Monday morning.
According to reports a car filled with explosives rammed into a US Consulate vehicle.
Talking to the newsmen Information Minister Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Syed Iftikhar Hussain said two Americans were killed in the blast.
He said the employees of the US Consulate in Peshawar were the target of the attack.
One American has been identified as the technical staff member of the US Consulate.
City Chief Police Officer said that 100 to 110 kilogram of explosives were used in the attack.
The United States confirmed that an American vehicle was attacked in Peshawar on Monday, wounding two American and two Pakistani consulate staff.
A US State Department statement referred only to staff working for the US consulate in Peshawar.
Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said no US consulate staff were killed, but said the United States was "seeking further information about other victims of this heinous act".
"We can confirm that a vehicle belonging to the US consulate in Peshawar was hit in an apparent terrorist attack," she said in a statement released by the embassy in Islamabad.
She said two US personnel and two Pakistani staff of the consulate were receiving medical treatment after being wounded in the attack.
"We stand ready to work with Pakistani authorities on a full investigation so that the perpetrators can be brought to justice," she added.
President Asif Ali Zardari has condemned the terror attack in Peshawar.
In a statement he said such incidents of terror cannot deter the government's resolve to wipe out the menace of terrorism.
