U.S. drones kill 21 militants in NW Pakistan - Yahoo! News

WANA, Pakistan (Reuters) - Missile strikes from two

U.S. drones killed at least 21 suspected militants in Pakistan's South Waziristan on Monday, Pakistani officials said, part of an intensified U.S. assault in the tribal belt this month.

In the first strike, a missile hit a moving vehicle in Ghalmandi Panga village on the Afghan border, killing eight militants.

A few hours later, another drone fired three missiles into a militant training center in Mantoi town, about 30 km north of South Waziristan's main town of Wana.

"It was a big compound which was used as training center. Militants have cordoned off the area and bodies are being removed from the rubble," an intelligence official in the region, who declined to be identified, told Reuters. Thirteen militants were killed in the second strike.

Another official said militant casualties could rise.

There was no way to verify the deaths independently. Militants often dispute official casualty tolls.

U.S. forces have stepped up strikes by remotely-controlled drones in Pakistan's border regions since the killing of Osama bin Laden by U.S. forces in the country last month.

Eighty-eight militants have been killed by U.S. drones this month, according to a Reuters tally based on statements from intelligence officials.

Pakistan publicly opposes drone attacks, saying it complicates its efforts to fight militants who want to topple the pro-U.S. government and impose strict Islamic rule in the country.

The United States has been pushing Pakistan to step up its war against militants who carry out attacks on Western forces in Afghanistan from their bases in Pakistan's tribal belt.

In the Targhib wa’ l-Tarhib of Imam al-Mundhiri, 3/276 it has the following hadith from `Abd Allah ibn `Amr ibn al-`As (Allah be well pleased with him) that he said:
“I saw the Messenger of Allah (saw) performing tawaf around the Holy Ka`ba saying to it: ‘how pure and good you are! how pure and good your fragrance is! how great and exalted you are! and how great and exalted your sanctity is! But by Him in Whose hand is Muhammad’s soul, the sanctity of a believer’s blood and property in the sight of Allah is greater than your sanctity!’“

Drone strikes kill 26 in South Waziristan

Tuesday June 28, 2011

WANA: Twenty-six persons suspected to be militants were killed in two US drone attacks in South Waziristan on Monday, tribal sources said. The sources said in the first strike, a drone hit a double cabin pickup truck in Sra Khawra area near the Shawal Valley, killing 12 people.
The sources said a group of people, believed to be militants, was on its way to the forest-covered mountainous Shawal valley when the drone started firing missiles on their vehicle. The sources said the victims included Afghan and Pakistani tribal militants.

There were reports that the militants were returning to their hideouts in Shawal Valley after attacking a military installation in Birmal area in Afghanistan’s Paktika province. The sources said the drone fired four missiles at the vehicle, killing all the 12 men on board.

Taliban sources confirmed the drone attack but did not provide further information about the death toll and identity of the victims. Another 14 suspected militants were killed and seven others sustained injuries in the second drone attack in Mantoi area of South Waziristan.

Tribal sources said the drone fired four missiles, pounding a house where a group of militants reportedly affiliated with the Hakimullah Mahsud-led TTP were residing. They said 14 militants died on the spot and seven others suffered injuries. There was no immediate information about the identity of the victims.

Isn't there any technology which can tell that you are locked on . It will give enough time to abandon the vehicle.... American provided Stingers to counter Russian Helos, I think its paytime, Russian should provide some early warning system to tribal which can tell them that they have been locked by Drones....

Laser warning receivers are a good bet against timely knowing of are you being targeted or not.

Tell me one thing; if innocent people are always targeted in drone attacks then why do MILITANTS try to cordon off the attacked area to retrieve the dead bodies (if any remain) in many cases? Why not police, rescue workers, and other innocent people in every such a case?

Stop generalizing on these affairs. People like you are responsible for spreading even more confusion within this already confused nation.

welcome to the era of "Conan the barbarian"...You don't like somebody and you are big,bad and ugly you have the right to kill them..No evidence or proof required..Just suppositions..

Also, if you want to read endlessly about drone strikes, see this sticky thread:

http://www.defence.pk/forums/pakistans-war/23429-missile-strikes-fata.html

No one knows who is killed in the overwhelming majority of these strikes because they occur in places that are outside the true reach of Pakistani sovereignty. In effect these strikes take place in a country we could call Talibanistan, and we only hear Talibani propaganda as to who is killed. The drone strikes will stop when Talibanistan is re-captured by Pakistan.
