Defense Industry Presidency Electronic Warfare and Radar Department Head Ahmet AKYOL, who attended the Defense and Technology Days organized by ITU SAVTEK, said, “After the LAND-SOJ and AIR-SOJ projects, we also started our UAV-SOJ studies. Inshallah, we will bring these systems to our Turkish Armed Forces in the coming period, ”he said.


Turkish Security Forces are currently using ANKA-I and BAYKAR UAVs in reconnaissance and surveillance and signal intelligence missions. With the UAV-SOJ taking into the inventory, it will be possible to supress and jamming enemy communication and radar elements with UAVs.

Maybe, but I'd rather the PAF pursue an ECM drone using the Ra'ad as the basis. I think it would be better (and a bridge towards loyal wingman UAVs).

Radar Jamming suite/pod and other electronic attack systems, more complex comm-data transmission avionics that can operate when Jamming active, Aesa radar, also FLIR and other standard ISR payloads as well as specialized payloads: When considered as a whole, SOJ mission aircrafts are always power-hungry due to the systems they carry. More accurately, what determines operational efficiency is how much power you have for jamming, deceiving, and suppressing. This is exactly why the TAF Air-Soj project was projected over the Bombardier Global 6000. Therefore, we can say that this announced UAV-SOJ project will emerge not with tactical UAVs, but as advanced variants of Akıncı and Aksungur, promoted as strategic/MALE++ systems.

This issue should also be evaluated in terms of the developing operational competencies of UAV systems as a whole. In other words, we are approaching the concept of the system of systems formed by the pure combination of UAV systems. Even tactical armed UAVs (such as TB-2) can successfully engage air defense systems(like TOR-M) in a scenario where ISR aircraft provide instantaneous intelligence and provide safe corridors by SOJ systems with deception or suppressing enemy radars. However, in the light of ever-evolving capabilities, Let include KARGI loitering Anti Radiation UAVs... Let add high subsonic or supersonic flying-false-targets or loyal wings such as Göksungur... Then, consider all of that with other high-altitude UAVs with high ammunition cap which keep a large number of A-A missiles and air-ground missiles in the air.

This is definitely not the endpoint, but giving a thinking perspective that sheds light on the future, showing how armed UAVs can use by combined forces within new concepts and how to related future doctrines take shape next decades.
