In 2010 Turkey was Europes second (2nd) largest crude steel producer and tenth (10th) the world ranking of steel-producing countries.
While Turkey was the 17th biggest crude steel-producing country in the world in 2000, it has become the 10th biggest producer globally and 2nd largest steel producer in Europe. In fact, Turkey was the third fastest growing steel producer in the world between 2001 and 2010 after China and India. Steel production in Turkey has increased significantly since 2001, rising from 15 million tonnes (mt) in 2001 to 29.1 million tonnes in 2010.
