Today the news that VW is choosing Turkey as a place for their big investment instead of Bulgaria is a top story on every media here.

Needless to say that Bulgarians are sh*tting blood because they had high hopes that they will get the plant.

Now all of them on social medias and forums hope for American and EU sanctions that will turn Turkey into a second Venezuela and for Germans to be hit by all kinds of bad things and disasters too while VW goes bankrupt etc. :D

Though still there isn’t an official confirmation from VW about their final choice etc so let’s not celebrate.

It is interesting that yesterday the Central Bank lowered the interest rate with 4,25% to 19,75%. That’s the first lowering of interest in 7 years.

Today the Lira is even gaining ground against the world currencies and is up with 1%. Let’s hope that the good news continue.

It's mainly because the harsh expectations regarding American sanctions have been proven wrong due to Trump's hesitation.

Plus:
(...) Right now, people are expecting a lower interest rate - even investors. This is important to know because lowering the rate now means that Turkey is finally following a predictable and rational monetary policy(...)

I've access to the investors community

Our interest rate is still incredibly high compared to others:

If the sanctions come (and I think it will) they will be raised sharply again. Meddling with the central bank policies is usually stupid.

Trumps admin is doing the same, putting pressure on Fed to cut the rates. When Fed cut rate comes this week, excpect lira to jump even more. Big part of Turkish economy hardhsips essspecialy in the banking sector came as a result of Fed raising its rates dramaticly,

Western allegations over Turkish economy debunked a year after lira plunge

It's 1 year after the big Turkish lira blowup of 2018, the lira is 25% stronger than its worst levels, rates are at 18 month lows, and as usual Turkey has defied repeated predictions of economic collapse

According to Turkey's detractors a year ago, a deposit run would crush the Turkish banking system, the sovereign would default, and Erdoğan would impose capital controls & go cap in hand to the IMF by now," he added.

"Instead, precisely none of that has happened," Slaughter wrote.
