Why should we do something stupid like that? Turkey has a balanced trade with Germany.
Not balanced. Near balanced. There is a difference. Besides, Germany cannot be trusted. That much trade also means over-reliance. Because, what you sell to them can easily be replaced, but what they sell to you are high value-added. Not easy to replace.
Germany controls more of Turkey's strategic assets. Besides, they recognize the Armenian Genocide.
You pretend it does not exist? Your media was calling Merkel Lady Nazi.
How can you be sure that your President will not get angry at Merkel again and your media start to photo-shop Nazi mustache on Merkel once more?
You are making friends with an unreliable partner.
In addition, China is Germany's biggest trading partner. If you hate the Germans so much, stop selling them your products.
China has no geopolitical beef with Germany. China is Germany's biggest trade partner. But, Germany is not China's biggest trade partner. Furthermore, China's trade is more balanced in terms of content. China does not sell raw materials or foodstuff to them.
China has nothing to offer Turkey strategically. You can convince me otherwise.
I will listen to you..
China does not have to offer you anything. Turkey is not high on China's geopolitical agenda. Perhaps it could have been, but, the strategic window has largely been closed. China has now viable trade routes to West Europe via Central Asia and Eastern Europe. Turkey as a route has been largely by-passed. This is in fact unfortunate.
The highest China-Turkey can go is to become trade partners.
Turkey is perhaps significant for managing Middle Eastern sectarian affairs, but, China has zero interest in how people over there feel about the side of religion they hold in esteem.
The two countries are just too far apart, too different, and have nothing in common. Iraq, for that matter, is much more important.
I hate Germany more than China. But today we have the opportunity to act in a more pragmatic way.
What does that opportunity involve? Can you name a few? What does Germany, strategically, provide for Turkey that, say, France can't?
But, I agree about pragmatism and opportunism.
