Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar visited Tawazun Industrial Park and defense industry company IGG in the United Arab Emirates, where he went as part of an official visit.

In the first official visit made by a Turkish Defense Minister in 15 years there was a heavy traffic of meetings.

Minister Akar said, “We have seen that UAE companies are in cooperation with companies in Turkey and that important work is being done. We can easily say that this level of cooperation will increase to a higher level in the future.”

For you what can UAE offer to Turkey? Ofc some funds or investments in Turkish defense industry and what also?

Turkish defense industry companies are in a radical growth trend. The service and system purchases of the Turkish armed forces and law enforcement forces are now losing the weight of the sector in the total sales volume and becoming an export-oriented sector. The annual average increase in export figures reached the band of 50%. As of May 2022, the increase was 94% compared to the same month of the previous year.

If you examine the SIPRI reports, you will see that UAE is traditionally one of the most important buyer country of Turkish defense companies And also ,UAE has been in a breakthrough that gives priority to increasing its domestic production efforts, especially recently. At this point, this history of defense industry relations and years of experience on mutual bureaucratic structures between the institutions of the two countries can turn into a supporting factor for the UAE's domestic production capabilities to be further strengthened. UAE can obtain many services or infrastructure support quickly, effectively and at competitive costs. As a matter of fact, when we examine the agreements, we see that this is the main focus. I don't want to speculate for now, but in this process, we may see some Turkish companies' joint ventures with UAE companies in UAE.

The things I am talking about here are not SSB-supported projects that progress in line with the demands and needs of the TAF. It is about the fact that this eco-system, which increases the industrial depth for the fulfilling these demands, can support similar efforts of friendly and allied countries. As the Turkish defense industry increases its vertical expertise, it becomes the subject of more blocking and embargo activities. Just like Turkiye, the Arab countries that will try to become independent in the industrial sense will experience the problems that we have experienced to a large extent. Western countries especially use defense relations as a political leverage tool. And they do not hesitate to sabotage any company or end system they see as a competitor in the international markets. I think the most valuable gain for UAE will be the sharing of this experience.
