What's new

Turkic World Photos/News/Discussions.

it's not only about owning horse. for example, we have like 15 colors for horses (where you see brown, we'll see completely different color) and every age of a horse has a name :) while you play football every week, we play kökbörü etc.

Doesnt kökbörü stands for Grey wolf(Bozkurt to us)?

Nomadism and tribalism are signs of backward societies. Examples: Arabic, African, Central Asian nations.

Atatürk was also not in favor of nomadism. Only sedentary tribes like Anatolian Turks were successful.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev on Wednesday have issued a joint declaration urging the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to create mechanisms to solve ongoing issues, utilize diplomatic missions, inter-parliamentary dialogue and contribute to the Islamic convergence initiative, ahead of a two-day summit which will be held in Istanbul on April 14-15.

According to a statement by the Presidency, Erdoğan and Nazarbayev agreed to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries, based on common historical and cultural heritage between the two nations.

They have also expressed concern regarding the imminent threat against the Muslim community (Ummah) and urged Muslim countries to develop a new paradigm towards resolving issues between members of the OIC.

"We call on OIC member states to support Islamic convergence and consider it as a new political platform for the Islamic community" the statement read.

Turkey holds the term presidency for the OIC and will host its 13th Leaders' Summit under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan."

That is EPIC!

This is the part of our culture and identity we ought to embrace more, atleast for the ethnically Turkic people. We have way to much Ottoman Mehter Marches and little to none of these.
If that was the case then why arent Central Asian Turkic people proud of the Ottomans - the same way Turks are proud of Turkic nomads from Central Asia...?

I've noted that Turks honestly look nothing like Turkic people - meanwhile Turkic people are almost identical to Mongols.

Would Turks identify themselves as Caucasoid or Mongoloids despite sharing little to no physical features that are common to Mongoloids.

I understand your point but I don't really care. Then on topic, I really like President Nazarbayev's pin on his suit. He seems proud as I am, of Kazakhstan.

The genetics of the Turkic peoples are quite complex and diverse. Every Turkic people is a combination of west and east Eurasian DNA. The wester you go, the more western the DNA is. For example:

Mongols: 93% east eurasian DNA
Kazakhs: 65% east eurasian DNA
Uyghurs: 40% east eurasian DNA
Ozbeks: 35%
Turkmens: 30
Turkey Turks: 15%

Under 30%, the east eurasian influence is difficult to see. Thats why you have Turks with 20% east eurasian DNA, who look 100% european/middle eastern. During Ottoman times, turkic tribes mixed with locals. Thats why they dont look mongoloid, but hidden inside them is a quite big part Turkic DNA. There are many Turkey Turks who look very central Asian. for example:

Yes, Turkey is very integrated but diverse country - there are Mongol, Arab, European, and even Slavic looking people.

That's the result of Ottoman Empire's focus on religion first. Ottoman Empire was a melting pot attracting immigrant muslims of all colors and races. Some famous Turks with a strong Turkic appearance:
Ilber Ortayli, Harun Yahya, Deniz Baykal, Devlet Bahceli, Ilhan Mansiz.

I understand, but do most Turks still think of religion as first?
