Turkey's longest artificial river MARDIN MAIN CHANNEL

With a length of 221 km, canal transfers the waters of Atatürk Dam from Şanlıurfa to Mardin.

The canal, which irrigates 835 thousand decares of agricultural land in fist stage, is one of the important strategic investments within the scope of the GAP project, which supports agricultural activities and water security in the region. Once the Pumped Irrigation Stage 2 Works are completed, the size of the irrigated farmlands will be doubled. It is estimated that 170 thousand decares of land will receive water this year alone in Viranşehir with Viranşehir Pumped Irrigation Project.
