Turkey's FM set to visit Libya's Benghazi

Turkey's foreign minister, who is currently paying a formal visit to Egypt, held a series of talks in capital Cairo on Saturday and Sunday.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met his Egyptian counterpart Mohamed Abdel Hay El Orabi on Saturday and the two ministers appeared at a joint press conference following the gathering.

Speaking at the press briefing, Davutoglu said he was paying his first formal foreign visit to Egypt after the June 12 elections in Turkey.

Replying to questions on the latest developments in the Middle East, Davutoglu said Turkey pursued a clear and transparent policy in the region.

Pointing to the importance of implementation of reforms in Syria, Davutoglu said the Syrian nation's demands should be respected.

Commenting on the situation in Libya, the minister said Turkey attached great importance to protection of Libyan civilians.

Davutoglu said he would visit the Libyan city of Benghazi on Sunday, adding that Turkey had been displaying efforts for the solution of the conflict in the country since the beginning.

He also said Turkey supported all the efforts aiming at establishing peace in the Middle East.

Regarding the situation in Gaza, Davutoglu said the Israeli blockade over the Palestinian city was illegal.

Egyptian minister El Orabi said in his part that relations between Turkey and Egypt reflected stability, moreover, the two countries had a strategic cooperation in the region.

As part of his visit to Cairo, Davutoglu also got together with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil El-Araby on Sunday.

Regional developments and relations between Turkey and the Arab world were on the agenda of the meeting, diplomatic officials said.
