Turkey, UAE sign $12 billion energy agreement | New Europe
.
Turkey and the United Arab Emirates today signed an agreement for the development of coal fields in southern Turkey to generate electricity. The agreement between Abu Dhabi-based TAQA and Turkey's state-run power company EUAS for the $12 billion project is the biggest Arab investment in the Turkish energy sector.

As Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz stated at the signing ceremony that took place in Ankara: "This is a very serious investment, a significant investment. This is the second-biggest investment made in Turkey after the two nuclear power plant projects."

In particular, according to the agreement, the coal reserves at Afsin-Elbistan basin in southern Turkey will be put to use for electricity production. The Afsin-Elbistan basin possesses 4.4 billion tonnes of coal reserves, which account for approximately 40 percent of Turkey's lignite resources. The project will provide the region in Turkey's south-east with 8,000 megawatts of power at full capacity. Initial operation is to start in 2018 and the full project be completed in 2021.

Nice is 4.4 billion tonnes alot or isit still snacks compared to other countries reserves.

Hope for more collaboration with UAE.

Oh god atleast we are in one ranking for natural resources 13th not bad, but i wish we had enough oil or gas just for our needs. Oil (petrol) is very expensive one of the most expensive in the world.

I'm not energy expert but does building nuclear power plants reduce need for buying natural gas?

I think the most dangerous enemy and choke point of Turkey is Energy and oil/gas. A combination of Mediterranean drilling, coal, nuclear, ... is vital for Turkey.
Petrochemical industries are run by oil and gas not nuclear power, so a minimum amount is necessary to make Urea, ethylene, plastic, PVC, ...

So how does building nuclear power plants help us?

Also there is some discoveries of gas and oil here and there not too much but still.

good improvements...Mashallah...
Comon GCC investors !! no need going to so far...

Come in turkey...do many searcchs..there are more potential and opportunites of investment....for exam: if GCC investors want to create new global auto brand they can do that easily within 2-3 years jointly with turkish aouto companies..

Nuclear energy means you wont need to burn gas for power but it is VERY dangerous. just build a few.
There is not much gas in Turkey, not even much of Shale.
The gas is between cypress, lebanon and Israel and it will be very controversial very soon. There is no borders in the sea, so the stronger will be the WINNER.

That's good the more nuclear energy the less need for gas. We are going to build 3 nuclear power plants by 2023. First one Russian company, second negotiations still and third negotiations soon.

And Turkey possesses the strongest navy in that part of Mediterranean sea and that is the main reason, Turkey is going too fast in building, buying and commissioning the Naval platforms.

yeah, That is probably why Turkey is building/buying ships each day. They know what may happen.
