Turkey to start the delivery of T-155 to Azerbaijan in 2014.

Turkey will start delivering T-155 Firtina (Storm) self-propelled howitzers ordered by Azerbaijan next year, Turkey’s Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation. The T-155 Firtina is the Turkish-made of the K9 Thunder 155mm self-propelled howitzer by Samsung Techwin.

Currently, the engines produced by an unnamed country are being tested, if the tests produce efficient results, the engines will be installed on the ready systems and delivered to Azerbaijan.

Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation(MKEK) continues producing self-propelled howitzers. 36 self-propelled howitzers will be delivered under T-155 Firtina contract signed between Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The contract was signed in 2011. But Germany’s MTU company, which provides engines for Firtina, refused to provide engines for the howitzers ordered by Azerbaijan citing to the embargo imposed in connection with the armed conflict with Armenia.

If the engine problem is solved, Azerbaijan intends to increase T-155 Firtina howitzers.

The main armament of the T-155 Firtina consists of the South Korean designed 155/52 caliber gun. T-155 Firtina has a maximum firing range of 40 km, depending on the type of ammunition. It can reach a top speed of 66 km/h and has an operational range of 480 km.

Unfortunetly we don't have any laser or GPS guided howitzer ammonations yet.

As far as i know GPS+IMU guided shell CEP is < 16 meters at 35 km range.On dumb shells CEP differs to %1.5 of the range.

With in 10m is a very good performance if you hit a target from 40km distance. 155mm round airburst blows the shit out...

It was a very expensive project |-). I dont think that they gonna use it in war. Wat is a round gonna cost?
