Bro, SOM missile is designed as being an air launchable land attack cruise missile having terrain referenced navigation capability. It allows missile to skim over terrain from a safe altitude during navigation. Sea-skimming manuevring requires correct softwares and algorithms that is similar to what Atmaca anti ship missile has, in order to navigate over the sea surface from very low level with zig-zag maneouvrings in terminal phase while updating the navigation paths thanks to references to be taken via onboard data-link called Kement. J variant for F35 will also have this capability as far as I know.

come on usually the only enemy in EEZ are illegal fishing ships or perhaps treasure hunters ,honestly won't you think these are a little too much for dealing with them ?

I seriously suggest you guys instead of giving them to coastal guard gave it to your air-force , they far better knew how to use them

Eastern mediterranean will cause so many problems in future.Because there is huge natural reserves in it.Greece Israel italy and others meditarranean countries excluding Turkey established a block.Turkey is alone in this way and we will protect our rights. Just a few moths ago military singed serial production contract of Turkish antiship misile atmaca. And now som will have same ability with atmaca.

I think You saw Atmaca anti-ship missile which is a ship launched (ship to ship/shore) missiles. SOM is air launchable missile...

In presentation, the capabilities being targetted are introduced but the real operational missiles have features that is advancing from block to block. In this aspect, j, C1 abd C2 variants have anti-ship features to attack on moving targets with sea-skimming capabilities and advanced datalink to update missile flight path. B and C variants have terrain profile navigation to attack mostly for land targets. Think it like differences between Kongrberg’s Naval Strike Missile (NSM) and Joint strike missile (JSM). Both are actually same missile with different mission profile.

National Turbojet engine having thrust of 3,2kN have passed all trials. KTJ-3200 has a 300 minutes duration compared to French TR-40 (20-25 minutes) equivalent. TR-40 is powering Turkish Atmaca and SOM cruise missiles. Those missiles with sufficient fuel is expected to reach 1000+km ranges. The trials will be done at the end of this year.
