Turkey to provide USD350mn for development projects in Sri Lanka

Members are telling me how Sri Lanka is in a very strategic part of the world (I do agree). I still believe though that our country has more pressing concerns such as domestic security and infrastructure projects that would qualify better for that money. But as they say in Turkish "hayirli olsun".

Mate, EXIM banks or Import Export banks are established for International trade and investment, Thats their role not on domestic investments on security and domestic infrasructure, For that you have other govt institutions.. Again this is not a grant but a loan, It's a win win deal for Turkey, You get your investments back with interest and you get a strategic foothold in a region that Turkey did'nt have till now

Thanks for the explanation Gibbs, we don't have that many news of this kind that. As you probably noticed the best TheGrim could come up with invest in Somalia and Africa, as if they're not already receiving enough from the rest of the world.

I think it's more beneficial for Turkey to invest in countries like SL, vietnam, Bangladesh, and Turkic nations. As you said it's a development loan, and you improve ties massively with countries that used to be out of Turkeys hemisphere.

Turkey should never be like an oyster, shutting down, and working on that little grain, when the rest of the world is getting ripe by the year.

USD350 million is too little to have any effect. Sri Lanka needs billion and not peanuts.

We have to start somewhere, and this is probably a "probe" to see and learn. Like establishing contact and such for future investments.
