TURKEY TO BE MAINTENANCE CENTER FOR F35

It was never forbidden to build up your own military industry within NATO, infact all of our indigenous/half indigenous systems have somehow a background in NATO/Western countrys.
NATO isnt stopping the military developement but the opposite, you cant deny the fact that without NATO Turkey most probably wouldnt have a strong defence industry today.

About Russia, it isnt NATO thats boycotting them but EU and US, Turkey has no obligations regarding this.
At the end it is the same. We are in alliance with the west and in this new Cold War we are doing business with the boogy man. You can't tell me US likes Turkey for breaking the isolation of Russia.

I am kind of shocked. Current relationship with US is bad. Maybe the worst since 9/11. Why in this time they have chosen Turkey?
Well the F-35 program is on unsure footing and a lot of export customers are having second thoughts. Turkey seems pretty committed to the F-35 and has already proven itself with your work with the F-16 production/MRO support.

Yeah sure but everything withing the legal frame, it would be ''acting outside boundarys'' if US clearly warned against businees with Russia but it isnt the case.

Let me give you a exsample, you remember why we still didnt finalised the T-Loramids tender? :)

WASHINGTON — Italy and Turkey are the big winners in the first wave of F-35 global sustainment competition.

Italy’s existing Final Assembly and Check out (FACO) facility will provide heavy airframe maintenance for Europe, with the UK potentially gaining extra business in the future if Italy cannot handle the workload. Turkey, meanwhile, will be the first of three European heavy engine maintenance facilities to come online, eventually followed by Norway and the Netherlands.

Peoples opinion dont matter in politics, Erdogan said a lot and quietly did the exact opposite afterwards, sry but someone must be blind to think Erdogan is truly confronting West/NATO, and there are a lot blind people who believe him. :)

ahahahhahahaha............I must confess you are one of the few members on here who understands the geo-political realities/game in the region quite well.:enjoy:;)

ISTANBUL — Turkey will be the maintenance and repair center of Europe for F35 fighter aircraft manufactured under the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) plan. According to an announcement by the Undersecretariat of Defense Industries, the U.S. Defense Department has completed its search for European airframe and heavy-duty motor maintenance repair centers for the new general fighter aircraft JSF/F35. Turkey will purchase more than 100 of the planes.

As a result of the analysis performed, Turkey has acquired the right to become the first center to be established in 2018 to provide heavy-duty maintenance and repair services for the engines of JSF aircrafts in Europe. The engine production and maintenance center, which will be established in the province of Eskişehir, will solely offer warehouse-level maintenance services for three years. The JSF program includes design, development, production and logistic support for F-35 aircrafts on a global scale. Along with Turkey, the U.K., Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Norway and Denmark are other participants in the program. The airframe and engines of F-35 aircrafts are manufactured in Turkey, and it is expected that Turkey will receive two aircrafts in 2018 within the scope of this program.

Good News for Turkey and the Global F-35 Program. ;)

Could this allow Pakistan to have F-35As after 2025??

Not sure if military establishment would want F 35 considering export variants of Chinese J 20 could be available for Pakistan.
Similar stories are doing rounds in India too, but experts are of firm opinion that having 2 Gen V fighters (FGFA in IAF's case) is a nightmare of sorts considering training, upkeep and overall ownership costs.

Problem is that PAF love US systems and if in future US offer them like they offered F-16s then PAF may not refuse to have 40 of those birds and there is a possibility of that after 2020 even Hilary Clinton hinted it that PAF may get those around 2025 who knows, PAF has always maintain front line fighter from US since jet age arrived (after UK attacker jet) to PAF.

Only reason for PAF not going for F-35As will be unwillingness of US to supply them or Chinese / Russian attractive 5th gen offer, even if PAF receive Su-35s in near future then PAF may not go for 5th gen bird till 2025.

With F 35 program running horribly late and over the budget, i don't think US would mind offering them to any paying customer, but the parallel running Chinese program on generation 5 fighters might offer an better solution to several nations, foremost being cost effectiveness.
One more issue is that not many AFs around the world are keen on prohibitively costly 5th gen machines, so it is making it even more difficult for developers to finance the R&D in this area.
There is a likelihood that after PAK FA, Russia may develop a watered down but cheaper and simpler to own fighter in VLO category which may find takers. Till then products like Rafale, EFT, F-16, Grippen etc will remain popular.
It looks like Budgetary allocations permitting, Pak too wold start looking beyond US as far as AF is concerned for its cutting edge needs.

Basically PAF will not go for 5th gen bird till IAF induct them, till then they just want to create near parity in terms of tech.
