Turkey says it cannot stop returning Russian warships from accessing Black Sea

Wasn't it Christian countries like Ukraine and Greece and their masters France/Germany that stopped Turkey from accessing E.u finance and e.u economic. Its gone a little foggy but there was some kind e.u economic block on Turkey from 2012 onwards.

Now they are asking Turkey for assistance.

Ukraine wasn't a part of the EU decision. Now that they are joining, Turks are in a dilemma. But frankly, according to the treaty (can't remember the name), Turkey cannot stop ships returning to their home ports. Russia is on both sides of the world and hence they can always pass through unless there is a direct war.

Weaponizing the Bosphorus Strait will send a very, very wrong signal to the entire world.

Everyone has an opinion on the subject, but who among them has read the Montreux Straits Convention even for once?

There are a lot of really weird comments. Turkiye has to comply with the Convention!

The Straits regime is not a one-sided decision by TR; It is a matter of international agreement. So it is not something that Turkiye could change everyday.

Aircraft carriers and submarines are prohibited from passing through the strait. You cannot transfer strategic power projection. You cannot bring navy ships over a certain tonnage into the Black Sea. You cannot keep these ships in the Black Sea for more than a certain period of time. You have to give notice (including Black Sea countries) a certain period of time before the passage of these ships.

And if there is a war, this transition regime is even narrower. The Montreux Straits Convention is a peace guarantor agreement that has no equal in the world. As long as this regime exists, you cannot Weaponizing the Black Sea; more precisely, Turkiye (and Russia) are the only the dominant naval power in the Black Sea. The peace of the region is under the responsibility of these two countries. All the seas in the world are under the influence of the US naval presence. And the only exception in the world is the Black Sea. The reason is this agreement.
