"Ozcan Ertem, head of the project, said an armed version of the Anka, or Phoenix, was possible but not in the works for now ... Ertem said four or five countries, including Pakistan, which has also sought drones from the US, are expected to place orders for the Anka once the Turkish Air Force issues an order probably later this year. "

Our defense minister was in Turkey recently where the possibility of collaborating on UAV("drone") technology was discussed. Perhaps that'll be the follow-on UCAV project they're talking about now. At any rate, this is great news, a hearty congrats to our Turkish brothers! 24 hours endurance, 30,000ft max ceiling, this really is pretty neat.

"Remzi Barlas, head of the engineering group at Turkish Aerospace Space Industries Inc, said Anka was as capable as the Israeli Heron and even features a better anti-icing system that works for the entire 24 hour-flight. Its diesel Centurion engine by German-based company Thielert Aircraft Enginges GmbH works with jet fuel that is easier to find in remote Turkish bases in the southeast, he said."

If the Turkish Project Lead is right and Pakistan does go for this, it'd put our UAV/surveillance capabilities at par, or above(more endurance) the Israeli drones that India flies in the Kashmir valley.

Hi,

Thankyou for that post----the future looks good for pakistan / turkey collaboration----in defence equipment, industry, democracy and everything good that we can share with each other.

As pakistan is looking outwards for assistance and turkey is looking inwards to find its true self, the affection that the trukish prime minister and turks hold for pakistan and vice versa is going to mature up in the coming years. The next five years are going to be extremely crucial and critical.

Some analysis on ANKA or Phoenix

anka-5.jpg

ANKA is an "operative" level system which was designed and developed with a 107 million USD budget.

system's verified and optimized prototype would be completed and serial production would start in 2011.

a surveillance craft able to fly for 24-hour

its not an armed UAV.

The first system, comprising three planes and remote-control units, was expected to be delivered to the Turkish Air Force in 2013.

specifications:

The drone, with a 56-foot wingspan and an ability to fly for 24 hours at a speed of 75 knots per hour and height of 30,000 feet (9,144 meters)

features a better anti-icing system that works for the entire 24 hour-flight.

Has a diesel Centurion engine by German-based company Thielert Aircraft Enginges GmbH and works with jet fuel.

If completed its something similar or comparable to the the Israeli Heron. and Pakistan might get its first by 2014 i guess :pakistan:

So what would be the actual no of this UAV should be bought by PAF & Army as we also have our own Falco program and i fi am not wrong they are building at PAC and are also developing a version that's much bigger to become UCAV like preditor B.

.
Well if these planes can carry 3-4 missiles ist great addition for small time survailance operation and hit operations.

Falcao is also a useful machine for gathering intelligence

.
Would be great if we get it...but we already have our own UCAV BURRAQ under development and we do make several types of UAV starting frm Jasoos,Nishan,Flamingo,Uqaab etc etc.

And yes we r looking for some UAV collaboration with Turkey.

Anyways congrats to our Brothers.

It really looks like this project's aiming to be a UCAV, it's got very high endurance and those big wings and the large airframe could support a decent number of missiles(something small, like the hellfire the US keeps gifting us). The Turks already have surveillance UAVs, Pakistan also has a number of different platforms.

Right at it's very launch the project lead is talking about the potential future combat drone role possibility.

. .
well seems like it is just a reconecinse UAV we need UAV which can fire Missile and bombs from above hope turkish are in process of making that UAV im sure pakistan asking them for joint venture on armed UAV
