Technologically-advanced, architecturally-breathtaking, and constructed in just three-and-a-half years, İstanbul New Airport will be the biggest air travel hub in Europe, with an ultimate annual capacity of 200 million passengers.

On 29 October, which marks the 95th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, what will be the biggest airport in the world built from scratch is due to open with a spectacular ceremony.

Just two days after, Turkey’s flag carrier, Turkish Airlines, will make the first passenger flight from İstanbul New Airport. The first overseas flights will be to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Azerbaijan.

  • 1st Trial Operation (last week of September): 1,000 faux-passengers, 2,000 faux-pieces of luggage, around 800 staff members from operational stakeholders and public institutions, two real aircraft (Turkish Airlines) and 50 pieces of ground service equipment.

  • 2nd Trial Operation (first week of October): 3,000 faux-passengers, 6,000 faux-pieces of luggage, around 1,000 staff members from operational stakeholders and public institutions, three real aircraft (Turkish Airlines) and 150 pieces of ground service equipment.

  • 3rd Trial Operation (second week of October): 5,000 faux-passengers, 10,000 faux-pieces of luggage, around 1,000 staff members from İGA, operational stakeholders and public institutions, five real aircraft and 200 pieces of ground service equipment.

“The transfer to İstanbul New Airport will be the biggest-ever airport transfer in the world. There have been no airports transferred further than 45km in the world,” Samsunlu comments. “Since 2016, we have been meticulously carrying out our works regarding the transfer to İstanbul New Airport. At this point, we have finished the training of airlines, particularly Turkish Airlines, ground services and other stakeholders, all in order to ensure their orientation to the airport in the operation preparation process.”

Between 25 and 30 October, only a limited number of flights will be conducted at İstanbul New Airport for the purpose of removing materials and equipment from Istanbul Atatürk Airport. The transfer process will start on 30 October at 03:00 and end on 31 October at midnight.

Both airports will offer flights in a limited number during this 45-hour process. As of midnight on 31 October, Istanbul Atatürk Airport will be closed for scheduled and non-scheduled domestic and international commercial passenger transport.

When all phases are complete, the new airport will host around 100 airlines flying to more than 350 destinations, with an annual passenger capacity of up to 200 million.

I flew to both Attaturk international and Sabiha Gökçen International Airport last year and didn't come across any of these problems. They had clean toilets, resturants, shops. Where did you fly too?

Professional opinion this. I believe if you tried harder you could have dragged Saudi Arabia in this too.

What year?
This is reference to present airport - Ataturk; just pathetic toilet and zero water facilities.

I transitted via Attaturk 6 times and across multiple terminals; this is for past 24months. Man, i have never seen such filty toilets and just no cleaning staff. I want fountain water not the ripoff bottled water. Not even restaurant will give you one in a glass; $3 for a bottle of water when it is 10c outside in istanbul.
Just look up reviews of this airport, this same complaints everywhere by hundreds of passengers. For sitting, it is a nightmare if you have a 10hr layover.

Yes ... go to attaturk and you will see, smell for yourself. Even in Chengdu, this is not the case. you will be shocked.

Ffs keep out of you petty issue!
Actually Mumbai's airport is far better in terms of toilet and drinking water facilities and people are helpful.

I have been to Ataturk airport quite a few times. Last time was one month ago. What surprised me was the amount of cleaners. Toilets were getting cleaned every few hours and hallways too. I can’t remember another airport with this many cleaners. The airports are good. The thing that bothered me was the hygiene outside of the airport such as restaurants and other public places. . Many restaurants don’t have normal toilets. They have those toilets where you have the squat. And many don’t have toilet paper and people wash their *** with water which results in water all over the floor.

I totally forget , went to Turkey in 2016. Where i land , was it new airport of old one ???.. but too much walk inside airport.
