Turkey in talks to locally develop long-range air defense system: Official

Work to develop an indigenous long-range missile defense system in Turkey has been ongoing, along with talks to take support from abroad, Defense Industry Board Undersecretary İsmail Demir has said.

“I said that we were open to offers that would accelerate us while this process was ongoing. There are countries and companies we had talked to in the past. They should disengage,” Demir told private broadcaster NTV on Aug. 5.

He noted that projects to develop low and medium altitude air defense systems have been in process, adding that the long range system can be viewed as a continuation of those projects.

Demir also reminded that Turkey attached importance to technology transfer in the cancelled tender.

“That is still on the table and it shows that the contact has been ongoing. As a result of this contact, our talk on what such contributions could be is ongoing. We have gained important ground. We know very clearly who can do what. It is being evaluated right now. The road map is obvious,” Demir said.

In addition, he also added that Turkey would likely purchase the first party of F-35s in 2019.

Turkey entirely dropped a tentative agreement to purchase a $3.4-billion long-range missile defense system from a Chinese company last year, ending a two-year saga over the deal, which had worried NATO allies.

Among the companies included in the cancelled tender were Eurosam, Lockheed Martin and CPMIEC.

By 2019/20, Hisar-A(16+km range, 10km altitude) and Hisar-O (30+km range, 15km altitude) will be operational bro. Hisar-N ( 50km range, 20km altitude) will be IIR/RF guided derivative of Hisar-O but High altitude, Medium range levels. Hisar-U will be high altitude and long range variant (20+km altitude, 100-150km range) with IIR-RF seeker head.

This is just the right time for Pakistan to jump in and be the part of this Long-Range air Defense system project. We will never gonna have a better opportunity than this one. Turkey is our one of the trustworthy and brotherly Nation, I do not see any hiccups in availing this great opportunity.
It wasn't a long ago when I have had heard a rumor that Pakistan has started working on building it's own short range air defense system, how truthful this news was? I had to ask few of my close friends, kinda friends who knew a lot about the research projects that were going on in Pakistan at that time, I can't say much about it, but the source was quite authentic, which made me realize that after all we are not lagging behind in defense system from the rest of the world. When are we going to hear that news? I can't say, but even if it isn't true than this Turkish opportunity is our golden ticket towards acquiring our own Air Defense System.

Are these 100% ingeniously produce or are there some parts from the US or Europe?

What I'm trying to say is there any possibility that it can be sanctioned prone?
