Turkey in Afganistan: Pak Support is Must

In my opinion, Pakistan and Turkey both should have influence in Afghanistan by backing & supporting the Afghan Taliban. If someone thinks that other powers (Russia, Iran, India, KSA) will not interfere in Afghanistan in the future they are wrong. It's a game of strategic interests & influence whether someone likes it or not. Russia will try to have more control over this region as it already has great influence over central Asian countries and she will try to have control over Afghanistan in some way.
On the other side, India had invested much there to destabilize Pakistan via its proxies and she wants to keep engage Pakistan on two fronts. If these countries will successfull in establishing more influence over Afghanistan then it will create issues for Pakistan in any way, whether its geo-strategic or geo-economics interests.
If you see all these regional powers, there are not gonna give up interfering in Afghanistan to have some influence to achive their interests.

In the context of Pakistan, She is apparently distancing herself from internal matters of Afghans and the Civil War currently going on in Afghansistan. But in reality, Pakistan can not distance itself from these matters. Pakistan doesn't have control over the Taliban, there are many factions within the Taliban. If they get power in Afghanistan solely its also not in favor of Pakistan, we can access this from a very recent drama of the Afghan ambassador's daughter kidnap blame and the Taliban's spokesperson was speaking the same language of Ghani's govt, even the Taliban are in no position to ask Pakistan to do something or to dictate Pakistan in any matter. And if they get the power they will be no different than Indian proxies like Ghani.

Now the presence of Turkish troops, in my opinion, is in favor of Pakistan even it will also benefit the USA but I won't go into more details.

I think both countries Pakistan and Turkey have kinda mutual interests, Pakistan wants to expand its trade ties with central Asian countries and for stability in the region, so peace in Afghanistan is inevitable for this purpose. Turkey has cultural and historic relations with central Asian countries and wants less influence of Russia over central asian states which is also in favor of Pakistan.
It's the game plan IMO......

The Taliban cannot think of ruling Afghanistan without international legitimacy.

as far as "international legimacy" is concerned, China, Russia, all the central asian states, Pakistan, Iran, ksA, Qatar and even Turkey will recognize Taliban rule. that basically will eliminate the western barfing of "international legitimacy" and limit them to just the recognition of "white anglo saxon" nations which the taliban don't give two turds from modi's bunghole about.

As far as Turkey is concerned, Erdogan has given an impossible list of requirements and demands to that ol' pervert uncle sam if they want Turkish forces to protect kabul airport. the silent diplomacy between Taliban and Turkey is that Turkey is telling them they will basically leave as well since they already know that the u.s. won't accept any of the Turkish demands; so Erdogan is basically turning the tables on the u.s. is putting u.s. on the spot with these impossible demands as the head honcho of nato just as the u.s. tried to put Turkey on the spot as a nato member.

In fact the USA might have well getting prepared to work with the Taliban once the current by/of/for the thugs government falls, which might occur much earlier than anticipated….

Keep your friends close, but enemies closer…

Only interests are permanent, the rest are BS…

there is no reason for pak to support turk present in afg. zero benefits...
Sll countries who want to the end of the brutal gov in Kabul and peace in Afghanistan have reasons to be involved.

afghanistan needs a lot of reconstruction, which, in a way, makes afghanistan a huge market for power and construction companies. this is a catch 22 for the perverted uncle sam; if the u.s. does not recognize the Taliban government then he will be the afghan market open for Chinese, Russian & Turkish power & construction companies while depriving american & european power & construction companies of huge projects in afghanistan. and if the u.s. does send american & european power & construction companies then that will literally be taken as recognition of Taliban government.

I think the USA won’t miss on that this time! Hence, some positive vibes for Pak regarding FATF….

as far as fatf is concerned, the u.s. has gone on the defensive ever since Pakistan started labeling fatf as a political tool instead of a technical forum. Going forward, I can assure you that Pakistan has no intention of "working" with fatf and every intention of "exposing" and then 'eliminating" fatf as a political tool.

So what does Turkey propose as Taliban persue the military option?:

Foreign missions call for Taliban ceasefire
  • Summary
  • Doha talks fail to reach ceasefire agreement
  • Clashes continue across Afghanistan
  • Afghan president visits western city under siege
KABUL, July 19 (Reuters) - Fifteen diplomatic missions and the NATO representative in Afghanistan urged the Taliban on Monday to halt their military offensives, just hours after the insurgents and the Afghan government failed to agree on a ceasefire at talks in Doha.
A delegation of Afghan leaders met the Taliban's political leadership in the Qatari capital over the weekend. But in a statement late on Sunday, the Taliban made no mention of a halt to Afghanistan's escalating violence. read more
"This Eid al-Adha, the Taliban should lay down their weapons for good and show the world their commitment to the peace process," the 15 missions and the NATO representative said, referring to Tuesday's Muslim holiday in Afghanistan.
The statement was supported by Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, the European Union delegation, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Britain and the United States and NATO's senior civilian representative.

Over recent Eid holidays, the Taliban have called short ceasefires, saying they wanted to let Afghans spend them in peace.
This time there has been no such announcement as the Taliban make swift territorial gains in near-unprecedented levels of fighting nationwide as U.S.-led foreign forces complete their withdrawal after 20 years of fighting.
Monday's statement also condemned rights violations, such as efforts to shut schools and media outlets in areas recently captured by the Taliban. The militants have previously denied such actions.
'SEEKING A SETTLEMENT'

The Taliban said on Monday they had captured the Dehrawood district in Uruzgan province, southwest of Kabul, after heavy clashes with government forces the previous night. Provincial officials confirmed the Taliban advance.
In the northern province of Samangan, security forces managed to wrest Dara-e-Sof Bala district back from insurgents, the military in the area said, adding that 24 Taliban fighters, including a shadow district governor and two commanders, had been killed.
Clashes were going on there on Monday.

President Ashraf Ghani on Monday visited the provincial capital of Herat province in the west. The Taliban have captured all 17 of the province's districts in recent days barring the capital, Herat city, which is under siege.
In Doha, political leaders and the Taliban discussed a settlement to end the conflict, the chairman of a council for peace Abdullah Abdullah, who took part in the talks, said on Monday.
"We agreed to continue the talks, seek a political settlement to the current crisis, avoid civilian casualties, facilitate humanitarian assistance and medical supplies to tackle COVID-19 pandemic," he said on Twitter.
In a statement late on Sunday, the Taliban said: "Both sides agreed upon the need for expedition in the peace talks, in order to find a fair and permanent solution for the current issue in Afghanistan as soon as possible."

Peace talks between the Taliban and prominent Afghans from the government side started in September last year but have failed to make any progress.
The Taliban's spokesman in Doha, Mohammed Naeem, denied media reports that the insurgent group had agreed to an Eid ceasefire in exchange for the release of its prisoners.
On Monday, U.S. special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad travelled to Islamabad and met Pakistan's prime minister and army chief.
"Ambassador Khalilzad emphasized the urgency of a comprehensive political settlement between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban," a U.S. Embassy statement said.

Pakistan is considered a key player in the peace process in Afghanistan given Islamabad's historical influence over the Taliban.
The U.S. Embassy statement emphasised that "tangible and material support" for the Afghan peace process was vital for its success.

This article is from journalist Resul Tosun, a former MP and close to Erdo'an:
  • Turkey feels she has a historical responsibility toward Afganistan
  • Turkish objectives: peace, reconciliation, progress, moderation, less influence from Russia/China/Iran etc.
  • Turkey wants to invest in building institutions of administration, military, education, health etc. 1.1b$ has already been spent
  • There're 5 fractions in the Taliban - Russia, Iran etc. have their supporters - Pak close to the strongest fraction
  • Turkey doesn't want to get into fight with anyone in Afghanistan. Pak's support and cooperation with a hint of jointness is a must to keep it that way
  • Turkey is looking forward to a long term presence in this region in cooperation with Pak in a win-win mode

Brother Probably majority of the People on this forum and in Pakistan consider Turkey a Pakistan's brotherly Nation and we literally have an immense respect for our Turkish Citizens. However, in a matter of Afghanistan I do not think that the majority will agree with Turkey taking over Kabul airport or contain any kind of a presence in Afghanistan. There are many reasons to it however I point out few of them here;

1. Turkey in times of Ottoman fought endless wars against Russian Empire, and it all started in the mid of 1500's, since then there were limitless blunders committed by Ottomans Sultans, most recent one was jumping into Europe's war in world war 1. And we realize that even now at this very day our Turkish brothers have not forgotten about the wars with Russian Empire, and we respect that too. However, engaging and limiting Russia's influence in Afghanistan will turn out to be a disaster for Turkey and there are many reasons for that, and I will discuss that in later stage.

2. We also agree that Turkish interests lies in Afghanistan due to the strong ties with Afghanistan neighbors such as Uzbekistan, and abundance resources of minerals, gems and marble, however, that doesn't mean that Turkey must forcefully or by any other means try to create a divide in between Muslims of this Region.

NATO or not Turkey is our brotherly Country and we have always supported Turkish stance on an International forums, whether it was a matter of Kurds or PKK or financial or Diplomatic matters in current or during Ottomans times we were always there, but this time I reckon Turkey must stay out of Afghanistan and let Afghanis chose their own destiny.

According to President Erdo'an, the Taliban knows the Turkish position, which is 100% non-combatant in nature, very well. He wants them not to act as an occupying force! It means Turkey knows the Taliban is the winner and should seek for the international legitimacy (a must for the continuous inflow of the international aid), so that the refugee outflow is checked. Both Pak and Turkey will be at the receiving end in this regard. And, keeping the airport open and operational by a reliable and trusted third party is imperative....

I won't be surprised if the Pak authority also wants it that way.....

By the by, the Taliban has changed their tone, and there'll be a talk between Turkey and the Taliban....

Turkey maintains bases in Qatar that saves her from the barbaric and uncivilized predators like the KSA/UAE etc.! And, the Taliban's international outlet is located in Doha.....

Lets hope that this will be the case, I know there are talks going to happen between Turkey and Taliban, and I hope that these talks conclude successfully for both ends.
