Turkey headban scarf - for or against?

You know what's sad? Muslims who support ban in a predominately Muslim country.

Their great, great, great and great grandparents would be rolling on their graves.
Some people are born to be slaves of their "Masters".

It's a very interesting phenomena indeed, that sometimes some people can go to higher degree of extremism in a "secular" thought than the ones who invented and integrated the secular system in the first place.

Originally, in secularism, there are no pressure to religious people. But it was interpreted very differently, and extremely in kemalistic Turkish history.

. .
ban not only in millitary but all public institution. im against people showing off that they are religous. whether it is christian showing off the cross or the jews wearing their hats, all secular institution should be protected. you can practice your religion the way you want on the street on your home. but once you are in a secular place you should repect it and take it off. just like when people visit mosque/church you have to wear certain clothes.

Secularism is not "suppression" of all religious "things", it's letting everyone doing his things whoever they are, but without harming the others with his own faith. Practicing a religion is not like wearing a glove... .
Secularism main goal is to protect/let anyone practicing or not his religion, wherever or whoever they are.

i know that but this is not about suppressing religous people. this is about protecting the republic by people who want to take over every institution

Allowing religious things like veil in the army, will not destroy your republic. What it's destroying a republic/country is a fight of power among key parties. So whatever you are a secularist country or not, this has nothing to do with religion, but only power... . And in any fight, you will find those using religion as weapon as other using "secularism" as a weapon too, But in the ENd they want power...

This is subject that causes lot of emotions to run wild. But I want to take a poll of PDF Turks. There are two questions to be answered with a simple

(1) Do you support headscarf ban as existed before Erdogan took over in 2002? Yes/No
(2) Do you support the headscarf ban in the Turkish military? Yes/No

Only Turkish members please vote. I am not going to bother counting any Turkish member who has registered today or thereafter. Thanks in advance for your contribution.
You act like you know alot but you don't have any clue about things you post. Writing paragraphs and correct grammar doesn't make you an intellect or anything.

There was no headscarf ban before 2002.

And no anyone should be able to wear anything they want, and female soldiers should also be able to wear headscarf if they want.

. .
Asking for views of others is NOT acting like "I know everything".
No but saying there was a headscarf ban before 2002 is without knowing the truth. My aunts etc wear headscarf and I didn't see police coming and pulling it off their heads before 2002. If you mean some places where it was forbidden, like some institutions then that's different. Yes they were all wrong.

But your opinions are all invalidated as soon as you even try to have a conversation or believe anything zulk says. You don't know the internal dynamics but he is last person that should he asked. No offence but just trying to advise you.

In 1984, the first widespread application of headscarf ban came into effect at the universities, but throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the ban was not uniformly enforced and many students were able to graduate. The headscarf ban in public spaces, including schools and universities (public and private), courts of law, government offices and other official institutions, is only for students, workers and public servants. Hence, mothers of pupils or visitors have no problems at all entering the primary schools, but they would not be able to work as teachers. Similarly, at the courts of law, the ban only involves judges, attorneys, lawyers and other workers. Wearing headscarves in photos on official documents like licenses, passports, and university enrollment documents is also prohibited. Universities and schools refused registering women students unless they submit ID photographs with bared hair and neck.[5]

A regulation in, 16 July 1982 specified that: the clothing and appearances of personnel working at public institutions; the rule that female civil servants' head must be uncovered.

An interpretation of this law in 1997 extended the ban to the wearing of headscarves in all universities in Turkey.[6] The debate over headscarves in universities has been the most contentious of all and has been an important element in the politics of Turkey since 2000.

Your being pedantic here. You know full well what I meant. Next time I shall frame it exactly so that you don't get a handle on it to grab. And you think the damned headscarf is a subject that takes Phd to understand. Seriously?

you are the last person that should he asked.
I was not "asked". I asked others. Try to differantiate please.

No offence but just trying to advise you.
Non taken.

Both yes and no.

1923-1950s...yes i support the ban.
1950s - present time. No, i don't support.

(2) Do you support the headscarf ban in the Turkish military? Yes/No
Yes. I believe TSK should be free from any religion. And if we are going lift the headscarf ban, we should also lift the ban on any religion in TSK. Meaning, Jews should wear their clothes, and Christians should be able to wear cross, etc....

.
My feelings are that no human being should be dictated on what to wear. This is not about Turkey but people in the world in general.

Insaniyat boht khoob he. Even Allah swt does not force anyone, so who you are you to dictate terms to another human being?

.
Thanks for that. It never seizes to amaze me that even a gawd damned question that is binary - yes or no will elicit response that is anything but that. And what percentage of Turkish females in Turkey do you see who wear the headscarf? Just a guesstimate will do?

Around 65%-70% of Turkish women wear Hijabs as part of their dressing..

Turkish girls have a very distinct way of wearing hijabs. You can identify it pretty easily. One Turkish girl that went to college with me taught me that..haha

I think like 80%+ of old women over 50 wear it and this figure is lower for young ones like 30% so average should be around 40%.
