Turkey Creates New Factory to Manufacture TF-X Fighter Jet

.
Does Turkey have indigenous single crystal superalloys or powder metallurgy discs? Do they have their own FADEC system or compressor design? These are just a few of the obstacles Turkey faces. Can Turkey not approach the US to license produce the F-110s?


In completed programs at Metallurgy field;

  • İnci Project: Manufacturing capability domestically for the titanium alloy parts needed in air platforms through precision casting method.

  • Yakut Project: Project aims at acquisition of the Metal Powder Laser Melting (LAM) process as well as the process modeling capability for manufacturing of functional parts that have advanced mechanical features and can operate under challenging conditions such as high pressure and temperature differences in aircraft engines. Through the know-how and experience gained with the YAKUT Project, it is aimed for TEI to become a main engine manufacturer that is capable of manufacturing parts by using additive manufacturing methods in its own engines in the long term.


  • Müge Project: The purpose of program is to develop Magnesium Alloy Casting technology.

  • Dinç Project: 240t melting capacity aviation quality stainless steel and nickel-based alloys required to be used in aerospace platforms for the defense industry and civil purposes.

  • The Atom project: This program aims to develop nickel metal powder suitable for layered manufacturing for aerospace applications

  • The Elektron Project: Development of a titanium layer process using the Electron Beam Melting (EBM) method.

  • The Ayna Project: Development of new generation Aluminum alloydevelopment

TEI designed 9 stage compressor providing same press/airflow ratio with original HP compressor with 10 stage designed by GE.

TEI designed combustion chamber reached %98+ Combustion efficiency in trials. That is a good indication for compressors and fuel injection working efficienctly to mix optimum amount of air/fuel particulars (1/14) in chamber.

TEI is working on advanced blades cooling technology to minimize the maintenance costs, while improving the efficiency and reliability of national gas turbine engines.

Other big problem inside the turbine is the retaining the strength level of blades. Steel, even Titanium drop off its strength level as you reach %40-50 of their melting points but Nickel alloy retain its strength up to %85 of its melting point. In turbine blades, Nickels combined with Aluminium improve strength of blades on even higher temperatures.

01/2014, Red dots were the sections that TEI didn’t have capability to produce in 2014. Within 3 years, All defficiencies have been filled with new manufacturing technics...

TEI has introduced one of the best weight/performance turbojet motor that was developed for Turkish medium range anti-ship missile program. The engine called TEI-TJ-300 has just ~30kg weight but generates 1300N (400hp) thrust. It was observed that a more powerful turbojet called TE-TJ400 (~1800N) is also under test phase.

TEI will deliver first TEI-TS1400 turboshaft engine (1600shp) to TUSAŞ in this year. The integration activities of domestic engine for T-625 utility helicopter will commence in this year. Acc to information, Alp aviation is developing and producing gear boxes of TS-1400 engine. T-625 with TS-1400 will be delivered in 29 October 2021.

TEI completed production of first 5 TEI-T700 turboshaft engine (2000shp). These engines wilk be transfered to TAI for T70 helicopters.

TEI is charged to developed a new and more powerful turboshaft engine generating power around 3000hp. It will be integrated for Atak-2 and 10t utility helicopters that is being developed by Tusaş.

TF-X fighter aircraft prototypes are being designed around F110-GE-129 or 132 turbofan engines. This engine has relatively bigger diameter than European rivals, so I suppose Turkish national turbofan engine program that is designed to power TF-X fighter will have same diameter with F110 not to create additional design work so Domestic Tf-X engine (up to 30000lbf each) will be 118cm diameter class. F22 engines (PW-119) has 116cm inlet diameters and generates around 35000lbf each.

Establishment of a coordination and cooperation mechanism between Pakistan,Turkey and Indonesia aviation industries could become a very valuable building block in sharing some critical technologies and accelerating some local projects of related countries in the future.
