The Turkish Foreign Ministry strongly condemned on Wednesday the execution of the leader of Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami party, Motiur Rahman Nizami.

The ministry said in a written statement that it had learned with "great sorrow" of Nizami’s execution.

"We strongly condemn the execution, since we believe that Nizami did not deserve such a punishment, and we extend our condolences for the deceased," it added.

Turkey said it will continue to stand in solidarity with the "brotherly" Bangladeshi people while they work to maintain social peace.

It also said that for three years now Turkey has called on Bangladesh to suspend executions and expressed concerns that they would stoke societal tensions.

Nizami was hanged at the Dhaka Central Jail at 12.10 a.m. local time Wednesday (1810GMT Tuesday).

In October 2014, he was convicted of committing atrocities during the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence by Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal and sentenced to death .

Preparations for the execution began last Thursday, when the country’s Supreme Court rejected his request for a review of his death sentence.

On Monday, the court’s final verdict was issued and referred to the prison authorities." Anadolu Agency (AA)

The entire situation is a farce created by Hasina, nothing more. There were better ways to go about it, if she was serious about handing out justice. This is nothing more than a ploy to increase her own power.

Nah its just Pakistan and Turkey that seem to have an axe to grind with Hasina and BAL. Not surprising since both were perpetrators of genocides that they dislike coming to the forefront in whatever way.

The silence from China, Russia, West and KSA is deafening.

Thankyou Turkey, once again, Turkish foreign policy has favored Pakistan's stance, its natural ally. No doubt the relationship between the Turks and people of Pakistan transcends the geographical boundaries and predates the creation of the two nation states.

BD run by Haseena is nothing but a satellite state of India. It has no sovereignty of its own to speak of. That is exactly what Mujeeb had envisioned for East Pakistan, glad to have seen it come true.
we should have taken up this matter in OIC in turkey and make them pass a resolution.

Its really stooping low for a nation like Turkey. They have failed to read the people of Bangladesh. Even the major opposition party BNP is silent on this, the party of which Nizami was an ally. Mostly the people in BD have expressed happiness over the court verdicts on war crimes.

Mujeeb got screwed by every side, in some ways, I feel sympathy for him.

Turks are being made a fool of by their president, who daily usurps more and more power while distracting people with tales of Bangladesh, rohingya and Pakistan.

If the guy really cares, raise the matter in the international courts or shut up.
