A tunnel boring machine (TBM) for the 142-kilometer Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project has arrived in Jakarta after being transported on the Phoenix Pine ship from the Zhanghuabang Wharf in Shanghai, China.

“The TBM is able to construct a tunnel for double-track railways for high-speed trains,” the president director of railway developer PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), Chandra Dwiputra, said at an event welcoming the machine at Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta on Thursday.

The machine, which weighs 3,649 tons with a diameter of 13.19 meters and a length of 105 meters, will first be operated in Halim, East Jakarta, to assist in the development of a 1,885-meter tunnel called "Tunnel #1", one of 22 points that will use the tunnel boring machine.

The machine would be operated using a shield tunneling method to ensure that construction does not affect crowded areas above ground, like the Cikampek toll road and the Jatiwaringin overpass, Chandra said.

He said the shield tunneling method was much safer than other drilling methods.

“The TMB will work for 24 hours without pause with a drilling rate of between 8 to 10 meters per day,” Chandra said, adding that technicians needed 45 days to assemble the machine before it would be operated in March. (bbn)

I think Indonesia will get it hsr much earlier than India

A typical Indian sour-grape and troll.

The Chinese-brands TBMs are dominating the Chinese domestic market and are almost kicking the foreign brands TBMs out of the Chinese market.

And with the support of the high-quality/low-priced Chinese brands TBMs, China has successfully built world longest expressway network, the longest high speed rail network, and also the longest metro network. These engineering miracles that supported by the Chinese TBMs are the best proof of the performances of the Chinese machines.

The China TBM market sales (in units) by companies. Only the No. 7, 8, 9 companies are foreign, the rest are all Chinese companies. And this is the sales table 2015. The Chinese TBM share in 2018/19 will be even higher.

Yes, quite likely to be the case given the target completion date for Jakarta–Bandung section is 2021. It will be the first in SE Asia.

Indonesia is catching up fast compare witch Malaysia. In future when all Indonesian migrant workers decide to go back to their home country, Malaysia's factories and construction companies will be in BIG BIG trouble.

There is Bengali people

Awesome machine made by China. Congrats to our Indonesian brothers, southeast asia's first HSR is now very close to reality.

Meanwhile india's famous vedic trains transport indians back and forth from india to mars, this is possible because indians pray to their cows daily.

Congrats to the Indonesians. Hope they ensure quality work from the chinese. They have a tendency for shortcuts.

Just because the only China made products or service you could afford are those of low quality doesn't mean China incapable to produce product or industrial machinery that is in par with European or US made products.

Doubtful, those migrant workers doesn't have the slightest clue the meaning of currency rate or the concept Purchasing Power Parity. And TBH I kind of like it they keep heading working abroad instead staying in Indonesia.
