WASHINGTON, DC, JUNE 1, 2017 – President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement is the “biggest failure of leadership in American history,” Citizens’ Climate Lobby Executive Director Mark Reynolds said today.

“At this pivotal moment for humanity, when the nations of the world must act together to avoid climate catastrophe, President Trump is saying the United States will no longer be part of that effort,” said Reynolds.

On Thursday, Trump announced that the U.S. would begin the process of withdrawing from the accord that 195 nations agreed to in Paris in 2015. In that agreement countries committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to levels that will keep global temperatures from increasing more than 2 degrees centigrade, the threshold most scientists agree should not be crossed.

With the White House abdicating any responsibility to avoid climate disaster, it is imperative for Congress to step into the leadership vacuum and enact effective legislation to reduce carbon pollution. Citizens’ Climate Lobby, along with conservative voices, proposes a market-based solution – a steadily-rising fee on carbon emissions with revenue returned to households.

Less than two weeks after the President’s announcement, 1,000 constituents from across the nation will descend on Capitol Hill to meet with every congressional office and press the case for action on climate change.

Despite the Trump administration’s antipathy to address climate change, there are encouraging signs that Republicans and Democrats can come together in Congress to enact climate solutions. The bipartisan House Climate Solutions Caucus has more than doubled in size since the start of the year and now has 40 members with equal numbers from both sides of the aisle.

“As we’ve seen with the formation and growth of the Climate Solutions Caucus, there are many Republicans who want to solve the climate problem, and we hope more of them will join that endeavor,” said Reynolds.

President Donald Trump made good on his campaign vow of withdrawing the United States from a historic global pact to fight climate change. He announced his decision while addressing the press in the Rose Garden on Thursday, a move that promises to deepen the existing rift with U.S. allies.

Trump stated that the decision on withdrawing from the 195-nation accord – agreed to in Paris in 2015 – was finalized, but adding that the U.S would start negotiations for re-entry to get a “fairer deal”

Trump, who has previously called global warming a hoax, termed the restrictions on industries to cut back on carbon emissions which were part of the international deal as being “draconian”.

The Paris Accord is a historic agreement between almost all nations which seeks to ramp up efforts of combating climate change. The agreement requires wealthier nations to provide financial aid to poorer ones in order for them to enact environmentally friendly measures. It also aims to contain the rise in global temperature to below 1.5 Celsius, cut back on carbon emissions, conduct stocktake efforts every five years, and has laid out long-term goals of achieving zero global emissions.

South Asian countries like Pakistan are profoundly vulnerable to climate change. This is due to the fact that South Asian countries are low to middle-income economies where a major part of an average individual’s income is reserved for food. Changes in temperature, erratic storms, and massive floods caused by climate would disrupt agriculture output causing food prices to rise and displace many to urban areas which are increasingly becoming overpopulated.

Since the dawn of Industrial Revolution, factories all over the world are throwing gases into the atmosphere and these emissions are the root cause of recent 'global warming' phenomenon. Unfortunately, these emissions are trapped in the atmosphere and are not going anywhere irrespective of the choices we make today. No harm in adopting eco-friendly Industrial practices but the damage is already done and irreversible. In short, we are already F**KED.

So what should be the plan of action now?

Every state should embrace eco-friendly Industrial practices but this shift should be measured, calculated and in accordance with the capacity of the state in question. If it is not practical for US to bear the costs of this shift in accordance with the terms of PARIS AGREEMENT, then those terms should be revisited to bring US on-board. Donald Trump have left the door open for negotiations over this matter.

However, you cannot blame Trump for safeguarding American economic interests as he deems necessary (he is responsible for the economic well-being of his state as POTUS). Your ramblings are irrelevant to him.

At my farm home i have wind turbine generating 800w + 3kw solar panels; power is stored in a set of 12 truck (not bakkies, but 28v batteries) and a 10kw sinewave inverter. Completely off grid system.

The deal wasn't fair to the US. While they would loose jobs and entire industries China was pledging to reduce polution from 2030 onwards while India barely reduced anything, all the while outsourcing capital and jobs from the western world on vague promises. Trump is right on this one.

A large number of people cannot afford a farm house, let alone shift to completely off-grid systems.

You need to understand that economic realities of each state is different. This is why every state needs to embrace eco-friendly practices in a measured and calculative manner.

Take a look:

Look at the consumption levels of different forms of energy. The share of renewable energy has increased over time but it is not going to substitute other forms of energy anytime soon. And a shift needs to be calculated and measured because a lot of economic matters are at stake.

American economy is way too big and complex to play with like it is possible in your state.
