PRESIDENT TRUMP:
Well, thank you very much. It’s my honor to be with a friend of mine, somebody I’ve become very close to, in many respects, and he’s doing a very good job: the President of Turkey.

And we have a meeting largely to do with trade. We’re doing more and more business, and we expect to be able to quadruple that business with Turkey. We think it will be great.

They’re great craftsmen. They have great product. And we’re opening it up. We also do military trading, and they buy a lot of our military equipment.

And it’s an honor to be with you, Mr. President. Thank you.

And look at these people, how nice they are. Look at them. They’re so easy to deal with. Look at them. Central casting. There’s no Hollywood set where you could produce people that look like them.

Please.

PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN: (As interpreted.) Mr. President, first, I would like to express that it’s very meaningful for us to come together here at the Osaka Summit. And we are currently going towards fulfilling the goal of a $75 billion trade volume.

And there are many steps that we need to take within the defense industry area, but, more importantly, we have a strategic partnership. And the strategic partnership also encourages us to create solidarity across many areas, and I have full belief that our solidarity will continue throughout the strategic partnership.

Thank you.

Q Mr. President, what will you do about the S-400s? Is the U.S. going to have to impose sanctions if he takes possession?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, we’re discussing it. We have a complicated situation because the President was not allowed to buy the Patriot missiles. So when he bought the other ones — the S-200s or 400s — when he bought them, he wanted to do this, but he wasn’t allowed by the Obama administration to buy them until after he made a deal to buy other missiles.

So he buys the other missile and then, all of a sudden, they say, “Well, you can now buy our missile.” You don’t — you can’t do business that way. It’s not good. It’s not good.

Q Does that mean is there way — so could you —

PRESIDENT TRUMP: We’re looking at different solutions. It’s a problem, there’s no question about it. We’re looking at different solutions.

But he was prohibited from buying until he said he bought something else. And then, as soon as he buys something else, everybody says, “Okay. You can buy it.” You can’t do business that way. Turkey has been a friend of ours and they’ve done — we’ve done great things together. We’re a big trading partner. We’re going to be much bigger. I think the $75 billion is small. I think it’s going to be well over $100 billion soon.

You can’t treat people that way, like the Obama administration did.

Q Will you be discussing the killing of Jamal Khashoggi at the Istanbul Saudi consulate?

Q Will you sanction (inaudible)?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: We’re going to have a news conference back at the hotel.

We had a very good meeting with President Xi of China. Excellent. I would say excellent. As good as it was going to be. We discussed a lot of things. And we’re right back on track, and we’ll see what happens.

But we had a really good meeting. I think President Xi will be putting out a statement — maybe giving a statement — but he’ll be putting out a statement shortly, and we will too. I think we’ll probably save ours for about 3:30 or so at the hotel. We’re going to go to the closing ceremony, and then we’ll go over to the hotel and we’ll do a news conference.

Q Will the U.S. impose sanctions against Turkey on S-400 purchase?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: We’re looking at it. But it’s a double — it’s a two-way street. They wouldn’t sell the President — they wouldn’t let him — they wouldn’t let him buy the missile that he wanted to buy, which is the Patriot. And then, after he buys from somebody else, he says “Now we’ll sell you the Patriot.”

So, I have to tell you, he’s a NATO member, he’s somebody that I have become friendly with. And you have to treat people fairly. You understand that. You have to treat people fairly. And I don’t think he was treated fairly. I don’t think he was treated fairly.

Q The ball is in your court though now, Mr. President. Will you? You’re the one who makes the decision. Will impose the sanctions?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: So we’ll see you at the hotel at 3:30, where we’ll talk about China. But we had a very, very good meeting with China. I would say, probably, even better than expected. And the negotiations are continuing.

Thank you. Thank you very much.

Q Mr. President, are you going to Turkey in July? Will you be going to Turkey in July, Mr. President?

Q When are you going to Turkey?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: I will, at some point, be going to Turkey. I’ve been invited, and I will be — I will be going to Turkey, yes.

Q This year, Mr. President? Will you go to Turkey this year?

Q Will you go in July?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: We haven’t set a date. Thank you.

Trump said no US sanctions over S-400: Erdoğan

U.S. President Donald Trump said there will be no U.S. sanctions imposed on Turkey over its decision to purchase Russian missile defense systems, Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğansaid on June 29, hours after the two leaders held bilateral talks.

Erdoğan said at a news conference at the G20 summit in Japan that Turkey expected the delivery of F-35 stealth fighter jets from the United States, despite the dispute over the S-400 deal.

He added that the Russian systems would be delivered in the first half of July.

"We have heard from him personally that this would not happen," Erdoğan said. "We are strategic partners with the United States. As strategic partners, nobody has the right to meddle in Turkey's sovereign rights. Everyone should know this," he said.

"We have a payment so far of $1.4 billion to the United States," Erdoğan said. "As joint producers, until now four F-35 jets have been delivered to us, but we will still receive... a total of 116 jets. We are expecting these," he added.

"What some people in lower ranks are saying absolutely do not align with Mr Trump's approach. I believe these will not harm our bilateral ties, and that is the commitment we are going on with."

Khashoggi murder

He also called on the international community to prioritize bringing perpetrators of slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi to justice and do not allow this topic to be out of their agenda.

“Bringing perpetrators of Khashoggi murder, from top to bottom level, to justice is the primary task of the international community,” Erdoğan said at his speech, calling on the world countries to keep slain journalist’s death at the global agenda.

Khashoggi was killed and dismembered by a group of Saudi operatives shortly after he entered the country's consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2 last year.

Riyadh offered various, conflicting narratives to explain his disappearance before acknowledging he was murdered in the diplomatic building while seeking to shift blame for his death on a botched rendition operation being carried out by rogue agents.

Khashoggi's body has not been recovered, and the Kingdom has remained silent on its whereabouts. In her report, U.N. Special Rapporteur Agnes Callamard said the murder of Jamal Khashoggi "constituted an extrajudicial killing" for which "Saudi Arabia is responsible."

Refugee crisis

President Erdoğan said he told his counterparts about the “sacrifices” Turkey has made since 2011 when the Syrian civil war erupted, prompting influx of millions of refugees into Turkey.

“Since 2011, we have opened our door to over four million refugees, including 3.6 million Syrians who fled the clashes,” Erdoğan said, adding regional countries were the only ones taking the responsibility of irregular migrants.

Erdoğan said Turkey, according to the U.N. calculations, have spent over $37 billion whereas the international organizations have allocated some $2 billion dollars.

The U.N. Refugee Agency provided a total of a billion dollar for the refugees in Turkey, he added.H

e said the developed Western countries who lecture others about human rights have failed at humanitarian dimension of the Syrian conflict.

“As long as conscious-based policies are not preferred over prejudices against refugees, more toddlers will die in the sea,” he said, referring to Aylan Kurdi- a three-year-old Syrian toddler, who drowned on a Turkish coast in 2015 while trying to cross to Europe.

Syria has been locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011, when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests.

President Erdoğan thanked Japan for hosting such a "successful" event and underlined that G20 summit was "meaningful" in the sense of discussing various topics with different state actors.

Erdoğan held talks with a number of leaders including U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister Theresa May, French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The G20 Leaders’ Summit, followed by more than 2,000 journalists from around the world, is being attended by 30,000 people, including 19 leaders and delegates from the European Union.

Trump: S400-F35 tension Obama’s fault, not Turkey’s

US President Donald Trump on Saturday gave strong messages on a wide array of global issues in his closing speech at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan, Anadolu reports.

In the Q&A session of his speech, in response to a question about the S400-F35 tension between the US and Turkey, Trump said he puts America first in all matters but cannot turn a blind eye to Turkey’s unfair treatment by former US administration, referring to Barack Obama’s handling of Turkey’s request to purchase U.S. defense systems.

Despite their longstanding strategic alliance as members of NATO, since 2017 Turkey and the US have been at odds over Turkey’s decision to buy the S-400, a Russian-made missile defense system, and U.S. threats to break its contract to sell Turkey F-35 jets over the dispute. To defend itself, Turkey first sought to purchase U.S.-made Patriot missiles, but even as the U.S. was sending weapons and ammunition to Turkey’s avowed enemies, the terror group YPG/PYD in northern Syria, Washington chose to ignore its ally’s needs and national interests and rebuffed Turkey’s overtures.

Despite growing calls from the US for Turkey to abandon its deal with Russia, Turkish officials describe their transaction with Russia as a “done deal.”

Obama administration said no, no, no to Turkey when they wanted to purchase Patriots and they [Turkey] bought S400,

Trump said and called Obama administration’s reluctance and failure to sell Patriots to Turkey a ‘mess’.

Blaming the Obama administration for the ongoing S400-F35 tension between the two countries, Trump said it is not Turkey’s or Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s fault.

“Erdogan is a tough guy but I get along with him,” Trump said, thanking the Turkish president for freeing American Pastor Andrew Brunson who was detained in a Turkish jail over his alleged involvement in a 2016 coup against the Turkish government.

He was released in October, a move hailed by the US administration.

Following the meeting of the two leaders in Osaka, a statement from the White House said Trump voiced concern over Turkey’s “potential purchase” of Russian S-400 during the US-Turkey meeting in the sidelines of G20 summit in Japan.

“The President [Donald Trump] expressed concern about Turkey’s potential purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defense system, and encouraged Turkey to work with the United States on defense cooperation in a way that strengthens the NATO alliance,” the White House said.

Until we see Turkey operating both the S-400 and F-35 on it’s own soil I won’t take any word of Erdogan or Trump seriously.

Next week Trump can put sanctions on Turkey and all we will hear is “eeeyyy America!”.

Trump is inherently not anti-Turkey. He very much likes Turkey & Erdogan for being strong. He values strong men, militaries and nations.

The problem is his advisors, they are anti-Turkey and are serving an evangelist-zionist agenda. The examples are clear, he told Erdogan that he would leave Syria and was on his way to do so until his advisors/administration stopped him. He is subject to a lot of pressure by people who wish to harm Turkey.

Let's hope that his advisors don't spoil his genuine ambitions of being a close partner to Turkey this time.
