What's new

Trump and Mullah Baradar of IEA (Taliban) spoke on Phone.

My friend USA is going and that is a reality. Regarding USA can destroy Pakistan and Afghanistan lol I would say wishful thinking. If they cannot destroy and win in past 19 years that means they cannot do it in another 20 years as well.

I would suggest you should read the last spring offensive and then rethink your analysis. There is a thread here on pdf just search it.
This war was not about destroying Afghanistan or Pakistan; this war was about dismantling Al-Qaeda Network in the region and making sure that this region does not entertain anti-American elements further - which was admittedly a very complex task in itself but virtually fulfilled. Afghan Taliban was the anomaly which have been sorted out by now and they are helping US troops overcome ISIS-K in Nangarhar.

War to destroy a country is not conducted in this manner; it is of entirely different character.

The war continued 10 years after dismantling Al-qaida so the war was serving many purposes. India the immediate enemy of Pakistan was facilitated in Afghanistan and was allowed to gain hold. British empire created first problem for Pakistan by making kashmir disputed between India and Pakistan. US empire created second problem for Pakistan by making Afghanistan disputed between India and Pakistan.

To put it simply for you we will never allow an Indian foot on our west. Weather USA likes it or not that is red line and USA will suffer because of it. Isis in Afghanistan had initial fighters from India in Afghanistan from kerala which included those health workers which were extracted from Baghdad. USA facilitated isis in Afghanistan but in past 2 year with Iranian help taliban developed a unit to hit isis. More isis is killed in Afghanistan by taliban then USA. Who ever designed that isis strategy to make a buffer zone failed badly.

USA had a problem with Pakistan China relations so USA chose India as its working partner. But USA it self is responsible strengthening sino-pak relations. Pakistan is at war with India we have always been for 72 years. USA deserted it cold war ally and soviet did not left India. So Pakistan morphed as China had close relationships from very long time and was also ambitious enough to take stance. Plus it also suited Pakistan to have a strong regional ally. Both countries had common interests and a ages old trade friendship so they made that concrete and USA placed it focus on middle east. AL qaida in Afghanistan was no one fault but a spill over of US actions in Middle East and unfinished American business against Soviets in Afghanistan.

I wholeheartedly agree that Pakistan's safety is of paramount significance because this affects us all in the end. Towards this end, Indian encirclement of Pakistan via Iran and Afghanistan must be curtailed. This wasn't much of an issue on its own but it was important for Pakistan to reach an understanding with USA vis-a-vis Afghanistan - an objective hopefully fulfilled by now.

Indian access to Afghanistan was made possible by Obama-IRAN-Karzai nexus. For some reason, Pakistan was not in the good books of Obama administration, and I fail to understand WHY this was the case. Republican Presidents have shown a much better understanding of Pakistani concerns vis-a-vis Afghanistan in comparison.

- for a much deeper understanding of ISIS-K movement in Afghanistan.

US-led forces were exchanging blows with ISIS-K movement since 2016; Afghan Taliban joined the show in 2018.

Al-Qaeda Network was an unintended byproduct of mujahideen movement to resist Soviet designs in Afghanistan. Back then, both US and Pakistan did not realize that Al-Qaeda Network will turn into a hideous bloodthirsty monster in the future. Afghan Taliban used to be very close to Al-Qaeda Network due to shared memories and experiences vis-a-vis Soviets. It took 9/11 tragedy to wake this world from its slumber and understand that non-state actors such as Al-Qaeda Network should be confronted. Pakistani establishment got the memo but Afghan Taliban were not showing much understanding at the time.

Times change.

For Afghanistan; I wish it find lasting peace.

For Pakistan; I wish that WE are able to steer in the direction of prosperity, internal tolerance and harmony, and political stability with a strong culture of accountability for all.

Look let me explain it to you this way. You don't understand it. Even if USA takes India out of Afghanistan still Pakistan cannot ditch China. For USA the issue is Pakistan China relations. Now why Pakistan cannot ditch China? China is a trusted partner as its govt don't has lobby system where your future get insecure due to a change of democratic leadership. If we are Chinese allies no one can stop our supply line by few million dollars pump in to a lobby firm. Countries invest billions on their security and those supply lines of weapons can be disrupted by few millions to lobbies. Even if you try to counter those lobby firms by hiring your own still there is risk. That is why today India being a close partner of USA still goes to Russia or France for crutial weapons.

Second reason why Pakistan cannot leave China. USA will always play a Middle man between India and Pakistan it Wil never take sides where as India will have confirm support from Russia Europeans will always look after their business interests so Pakistan needs China. There is no other option.

So due to this all Pakistan and US Afghan policy will always differ.

USA had a very good control in this region but in an attempt to make a hot western front for China USA lost more than it could gain in this region. It is an actual CIA and pentagon strategists mistake. Pakistan has nothing to lose we have good enough control in Afghanistan to keep India at bay. India wants a hot west for Pakistan to help USA contain China. So it is a mix of overlapping interests of everyone and that fueled the proxy war in Afghanistan and in the end Pakistan maneuvered a favorable situation for both USA and Pakistan to provide a clean exit to USA.

I think you misunderstood my earlier posts or something. Not once I recall advocating Pakistan ditching China in this forum or elsewhere - does not make sense for our country given our security dimension and considerations. China have been with us through thick and thin, and is now giving us CPEC. Only a fool would advice to the contrary.

Just one consideration: Kissi bhee mulk kee pooja achi nahin hoti. Exploit honay kaa hadshaa hota hai.

I simply pointed out that American intervention in the region is/was to make sure that no ACTOR is able to utilize either Afghanistan or Pakistan to kill/hurt Americans in the long-term. This is completely understandable position and concern on their end.

USA is admittedly a difficult country to understand (and deal with) but it did steer Pakistan towards the direction of confronting terrorists in the region - a step in the right direction for Pakistan, bro. WE cannot afford to be a PARIAH state, or be perceived as a state-sponsor of terrorism in the world at large.

Indians being troublemakers for Pakistan in Afghanistan is not news to me. With fanatical Modi Sarkar at the helm of affairs in India, there is little hope for peace with them. Although, Indian factor in Afghanistan is being sorted out as of late, there is another consideration:

USA and India have a meaningful relationship as of late and WE have to come to terms with this reality; many countries are warming up to India including some of our closest allies KSA and UAE, and even China desire a meaningful relationship with India (recall Modi - Xi summits?). WE cannot afford to have a one-dimensional view of this dynamic anymore. WE need to think long-term.

I believe in the possibility of forging a meaningful bilateral relationship between Pakistan and USA for long-term. They are arrogant d***s (no doubt) but it would be utterly foolish for us to [allow] India to hijack this dimension to its advantage in the long-term. HOW? WE have to sharpen our diplomatic skills and transform into a THRIVING ECONOMY - USA cannot overlook a THRIVING ECONOMY in its dealings.

This world is increasingly multi-polar again but Pakistan must be a PARTNER of any state in PEACE only as PM Imran Khan have insisted lately. Because CONFLICT only leads to death, destruction and economic ruin. Yaad rahey kissi nay bhee Kashmir nahin dilwaya humein.

WASHINGTON — The Taliban’s top military commander was captured several days ago in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret joint operation by Pakistani and American intelligence forces, according to American government officials.

The commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is an Afghan described by American officials as the most significant Taliban figure to be detained since the American-led war in Afghanistan started more than eight years ago. He ranks second in influence only to Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s founder and a close associate of Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks.

Mullah Baradar has been in Pakistani custody for several days, with American and Pakistani intelligence officials both taking part in interrogations, according to the officials.

It was unclear whether he was talking, but the officials said his capture had provided a window into the Taliban and could lead to other senior officials. Most immediately, they hope he will provide the whereabouts of Mullah Omar, the one-eyed cleric who is the group’s spiritual leader.

banned harsh interrogations like waterboarding by Americans, but the Pakistanis have long been known to subject prisoners to brutal questioning.

American intelligence officials believe that elements within Pakistan’s security services have covertly supported the Taliban with money and logistical help — largely out of a desire to retain some ally inside Afghanistan for the inevitable day when the Americans leave.

died during a raid by NATO and Afghan forces in 2007. Among the captured were Mullah Obaidullah, the Taliban defense minister, who reported to Mr. Baradar.

“The only man more powerful than Baradar is Omar,” Mr. Muzhda said. “He and Omar cannot meet very often because of security reasons, but they have a very good relationship.”

Western and Afghan officials familiar with the workings of the Taliban’s leadership have described Mullah Baradar as one of the Taliban’s most approachable leaders, and the one most ready to negotiate with the Afghan government.

answers to questions submitted by Newsweek last summer, Mullah Baradar said that he could not maintain “continuous contacts” with Mullah Omar, but that he received advice on “important topics” from the cleric.

In the same interview, Mullah Baradar said he welcomed a large increase in American troops in Afghanistan because the Taliban “want to inflict maximum losses on the Americans, which is possible only when the Americans are present here in large numbers and come out of their fortified places.”

Shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks, Mullah Baradar was assigned by Mullah Omar to assume overall command of Taliban forces in northern Afghanistan. In that role, he oversaw a large group of battle-hardened Arab and foreign fighters who were based in the northern cities of Kunduz and Mazar-i-Sharif.

In November 2001, as Taliban forces collapsed after the American invasion, Mullah Baradar and several other senior Taliban leaders were captured by Afghan militia fighters aligned with the United States. But Pakistani intelligence operatives intervened, and Mullah Baradar and the other Taliban leaders were released, according to a senior official of the Northern Alliance, the group of Afghans aligned with the United States.
