Agartala, March 4 (bdnes24.com) — In order to facilitate rail connectivity between West Bengal and Tripura via Bangladesh, the Indian government is financing construction of a railway on the missing link between Akhaura (Bangladesh) and Agartala, capital of Tripura.

Indian Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa, late on Thursday, informed the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament) in a written reply to a question.

He informed that timeframe for the implementation of the project depended on issues, including acceptance of the proposed alignment by the Bangladesh authorities and availability of land required for the project.

India has been assisting Bangladesh in developing its rail network by providing rolling stock and helping improve its fixed infrastructure.

Recently a joint railways delegation of India and Bangladesh has finalised the alignment of rail connecting the Agartala rail station with the Kashba rail station in Bangladesh.

Another really disgusting move by the AL government to please the bharatis... I just can not understand why AL government is so bent on giving transit to the bharatis before making sure the benefit that BD is gonna get!!!

N point to be noted this deal is part of the transit and the so called Indian financing as mentioned by the news is actually part of the loan that India is going to give to bangladesh for there own use as Bangladesh does not need the railway link between Akhawra and Agartola or in other word Benapol to Agartola as it does not serve any benefit to Bangladesh...

. . . . .
I just love economy related posts on BD defense section.... gives me the laughter dose for the day... just as the doctor ordered.

It is a good move by the GoI to push through these transits through BD. This will help us go around our chicken neck and also maybe beneficial to the BD public to give them better access to the NE market in India.

Getting a win loose deal will lead to a cancellation of the whole deal when the government will change. I hope you do not want that.

Well there would be cancellation clauses in the agreement. So there would be no other choice but to comply... thats how things are done when such deals are signed.

I dont understand y BD members here are not happy seeing us improve our connectivity with our own lands?:frown:

Bangladesh is giving this transit for free so BD has no liability to continue it for the future and no bd citizen will allow to sign any deal that does not keep the space for coming out of this if BD does not want it any time in the future. Even if India gets the deal it will be at best 2 year deal.

Transit is not free.

“We’ll charge fees for capacity maintenance, as our infrastructure will be used by their cargoes,” Muhith said a day after opposition leader Khaleda Zia told a political rally that India was seeking free transit.

Transit to Indian goods through Bangladesh won’t be free

I think you are not up to date with the issue what the finance minister just said few days later from that point. BD will not charge any fees from the transit as it is not allowed to charge anything for transit. India will just give a yearly fees for the operation and maintainable cost for the transit but no duties for this unlimited transit with the excuse India is giving transit of Nepal and Bhutan to bangladesh. Nepal and Bhutan is not necessary for BD.
