Agartala, March 4 (bdnes24.com) In order to facilitate rail connectivity between West Bengal and Tripura via Bangladesh, the Indian government is financing construction of a railway on the missing link between Akhaura (Bangladesh) and Agartala, capital of Tripura.
Indian Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa, late on Thursday, informed the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament) in a written reply to a question.
He informed that timeframe for the implementation of the project depended on issues, including acceptance of the proposed alignment by the Bangladesh authorities and availability of land required for the project.
India has been assisting Bangladesh in developing its rail network by providing rolling stock and helping improve its fixed infrastructure.
Recently a joint railways delegation of India and Bangladesh has finalised the alignment of rail connecting the Agartala rail station with the Kashba rail station in Bangladesh.
