Tripura Cong sends Election Commission of India Bangladeshi names in voter's list
AGARTALA: The opposition Congress has sent to the Election Commission of India (ECI) a few hundred fresh Bangladeshi names that have been included in the electoral roll, while reiterating the demand for an error-free voters' list.

Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Ashok Sinha alleged that the ruling CPM party has mobilized the administration at the ground level over the years to manipulate the voters' list and stated that they have already identified more than 40,000 names of ineligible voters', including minors, in the existing electoral roll.

"The ECI had taken all the complaints into cognizance and sent several observers for investigation, but they only issued instructions for modification to state government officers. However, the state officers did not do the needful in many cases. It was even reported to the observers that no action was taken as per their instructions," Sinha stated.

He alleged that a huge number of cases were referred to the ECI where the same persons were enrolled two or three times in different constituencies, with slightly modified appearance, at the behest of the ruling CPM. He added all this was done by the state government officers with a design in mind.

Sinha added that enrolment of Bangladeshis' names in the electoral roll was a threat to the internal security of the country. Unless the state government officials are punished, the Congress will not stop the movement, he added.

AGARTALA: Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has announced it will stage a mass demonstration in front of election returning officers (EROs) across the state on December 31 next demanding an error-free electoral roll.

TPCC general secretary and MLA Asish Kumar Saha alleged that despite the best efforts of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the biased attitude EROs and booth returning officers against the ruling CPM has frustrated the mandate of a proper voters' list.
