Trillion Dolla India versus Failed Pakistan

Most of the poor workers in Indian Punjab are from UP and Bihar. Those states have a lot of poverty.
Another point, Indian punjab is rich, but not heavily industrialised. Natural beauty is abundant. Just check out chandigarh to get an idea.

Finally, if you're looking at numbers, look at the per capita ones, not gross figures to compare.

Should have compared with Chandigarh and your head would have stumbled.
Chandigarh is like Islamabad, new planned capitals. You can do that comparison if you want. I asked Pakistani Punjabi members to compare their part with Indian Punjab. I am sure we have members from cities like Sialkot or Gujranawala which are in Pakistani Punjab not too distant from Amritsar and of similar size. I can certainly tell you we do not have man articulated rickshaw taxis in Pakistan.

Does Indus valley and harappan civilization ring a bell?
Yes it does. But a quick history lesson for you. At nearly 5,000 years there was no India, there was no Hinduism, no Christianity or Islam or Judaism at that point in time. It is even before the vedas.

Islamabad - twin of Chandigarh. Planned new capital city.

Why not Capital City Vs Capital City

i.e Why not lahore vs Chandigarh ?

Yupp first thing that crossed my mind, when comparing with lahore, why not compare with chandigarh .
Lahore is capital city of pakistani punjab, then why not compare with capital city of indian punjab ?

TT can you answer ?

So everyday we are reminded that India is -

  • Trillion dolla economy
  • 5th largest economy
  • Mumbai has bigger GDP apparently then all of Pakistan
  • that India is roaring while Pakistan is failing
  • that India is drowning in success and Pakistan is wallowing in failure

So let's look beyond the numbers and boasting. Indian Punjab is adjacent to Pakistani Punjab and is one of India's more prosperous states. Many Sikhs from this state live abroad in USA or UK or Canada. Amritsar in Indian Punjab is only about 20 miles from Lahore in Pakistani Punjab. Both cities are Punjabi speaking with shared history but a international border running in the middle. It is important to note that Sikhs of Amritsar, Indian Punjab are considered as a wealthy community relative to rest of India.

So I thought it would be interesting to see what Amritsar in trillion dolla India looks like. Are the streets lined in gold? Is it land of milk and honey? What is it like across the border? I would ask Pakistani's who live in Lahore or the adjoining Pakistan Punjab to look at this and contribute by comparing Pakistan Punjab with trillion Dolla Indian Punjab. For a lay observor what caught my eye besides the filth was the number of man powered rickshaws. I have never seen rickshaw pullers in Pakistan. Indeed I think it is against the law since 1952. But in one of India's most prosperous states man powered rickshaws are everywhere which raises the question of how cheap Indian labour is in that it can compete against motor rickshaws. So here is how the trillion dolla India looks just across the border of failed Pakistan.

The Sikh women interestingly almost wear the same Shalwar Kameez as in Pakistan which is not a surprise.
Interesting post and you touch on a lot of things correctly. But I do disagree with you about Sikh women wearing the same clothes like Pakistanis do.

Sikhs wear Churidars.

Pakistanis wear Shalwar Kameez.

The reason India has such a large economy is because it has 1.3 billion people.

You are bound to have a huge economy with that large amount of people.

Well Living here I hear Sikhs tell me India is a s...thole and they are glad they left one of the tenants in my building complained that the USA was a hell but he said India was much more hell than the USA so when Hinds..its or Indo-philes claim muh "Wealthy India" muh "Poor Porkistan" they dont want to face the reality that its a overated tourist trap, one thing I give Indians a cred they lobby hard here and have great public relations compared to Diaspora Pakistanis

Thats one thing I will give credit to the Indians. They have better advertising of their country than we do of our country.

This is our fault. We need to fix our country's image in the face of the world.

We need the Middle East and China to help us with the tourist industry and bolster our image on the world stage.

So Pakistan is ahead in banning man pulled Rhickshaws in 1959 while "muh Secular Rich India" still has it in 2018

Having a large economy and cheap labor does not mean your country is a "supapowa" and better living standards

Make @Indus Pakistan the PR dude in charge of Brand Pakistan pls

I thought you made some meanigful comparisons in terms of economy etc.
But there you have a photo of rickshaw puller or a video of random guy walking through narrow streets of older residenttial area and a final judgement.
lol@thinktank

Take a break and enjoy the thread...Actually i find it more interesting when we draw attention and frustration from people around us..

Listen sweetypie, point is that India is not what the Indian expatriates make it out to be.
India still has the largest number of poor people in the world. This is not about people in extreme poverty, this is about overall poverty.

India has many shortcomings.
India is not the land of opportunity people make it out to be.

India is still way behind the west in science and education.

Sorry, you come from a filty country and it is not my opinion:-

I know what the TT did there.
Should have compared with Chandigarh and your head would have stumbled.
Anyways, if you're comparing with Amritsar then it is a holy city for the sikhs not known for trade or being prosperous. Punjab economy as a whole needs reform (traditionally survived on agriculutre) as it is its the southern part of India which is contributing to the success that India is today.
Have a great day!

Pakistan was much more prosperous when hindu rulers ruled there. Does Indus valley and harappan civilization ring a bell?
kid! in old era, specially in Mughal Empire Amritsar was the hub of all caravans coming from west all the way from today's MENA and CA regions.......It was a ''mandi''back then...... Even yr Sidhu who is from that city says that!
