Tribal jirga backs vaccination ban

Rumors are always going to be there, even in India the tribal people didn't trust the doctors and the government official when the first started the free vaccination program. But over time when government started the information and education program where the people can learn about the disease and the importance of the vaccine they started to turn away from these rumors. Best thing to do is setup programs to teach people about the disease.

Best way forward in such community is to engage the community leaders and elders.Better use the one educated person from same community.

One of the main reason i found in india among muslims opposing the polio vaccination back in 2004 when we were volunteering from our college for the yearly vaccination program and campaign was that it sterile the child It was too difficult to dispel there fears but wasnt impossible.And btw increase in population of south asia does prove their fears wrong.Even saudi Arab insists on polio vaccination for people going on Haj.saudi arab example can be best for tribal of pakistan to dispel their fears about polio.And when you say that there is some western conspiracy in polio campaign in india i can do nothing but simply laugh at your ignorance.

Well most of the minorities didn't trust the government and the program when it first started but after they saw the good results they started to trust the vaccine.

Why do you think foreign agencies will bother to spend billion of their money on vaccinating children in Pakistan/india?
there has to be a catch..
and that catch has been changing over the years...
Currently its door to door access in hard to access areas for espionage..

Those foreign agencies comes under United Nations formed by agreement of every member. Those anti-vaccine rumor cost my country a lot.

The remedy is to create camps outside villages and let people come the camps instead of the likes of Dr.Shakil Afridi knocking peoples doors

Up until 2oo4 polio graph was going lower and there were news of polio to be eliminated soon but when peace errupted in that region it gave polio a boost... and then cases like shakeel afridi are didnt help at all....

So its more to do with Govt. of pakistan's fear of Dr. afridi like espionage under the guise of polio campaign than the tribal themselves.If other country want to do espionage in pakistan they will find many ways fo r that you cant sacrifice the whole campaign for the fear of espionage.I'll simply say federal govt. is dragging its feat from its duties towards its citizenry.

Well he pretended like he was handing out vaccines while he was doing it I can see why people could have some apprehension towards the vaccine because of that. However what the tribals have basically said is they would rather have their kids die from a disease than a drone which is stupid at best.

yes i know that it was difficult for us to convince them in the beginning but not impossible way back our team was given the duty of 3 villages and we used to camp there 15 days before polio vaccination date educating the people.

Kids were given candies at Polio vaccine booth. Children used to remind their parents about polio vaccination so that they will get candies there.

If they have agreed to let polio ravage them, then so be it.
What must be done is to slowly isolate off the Tribal areas that are still assisting the Taliban.. and assimilate those who prefer education and progress over barbarism and backwardness. When the section that is left out sees that its cousins are now prospering, they will abandon their old ideas and come forward to embrace prosperity.
The only solution to such idealogical in that region is to keep the people of that area busy and working.
They are the most hardworking people on earth, and brilliant too.. but if left unoccupied ..they fit the saying "idle hands are the devils playground" best.

Its not the Govt. There as many theories on polio by mullah brigade which all involve west (US and Israel etc) in it and Shakil Afridi on being CIA payroll just gave those false theories strength. When child goes astray parents guide them not isolate them.Awam is like child to the govt.hence its govt's duty to guide its child and help not to allow them go astray.

But as i wrote before even with so many theories Polio was nearly eliminated but after tribal area became a warzone it was difficult to keep polio campaign in each and every corner of tribal areas. But countering a propaganda becomes difficult when such clinics are used by foreign agencies for there own purposes. Not exactly a rocket science.

Area being war zone is not valid reason even people have worked for polio campaign in killing fields of manipur jharkhand chattisgarh(it used to be south MP before).And as i said before fear of espionage can not be the valid reason to sacrifice the campaign in the region.if not polio campaign foreign powers will find another way for espionage.
