Family Says She Was Killed With Pellets; Tral Observes Protest Shutdown
The death of a local Sikh girl Pinky Kour in Tral grenade blast has left entire Tral town in deep shock as Muslims, Sikhs and Pandits are mourning the untimely death. The shops are closed, roads are deserted and traffic is off the roads.
Pinky, 22, died a day before she was to appear in her second semester examination. An MBA student at Islamic University of Science and Technology, Pinky on Thursday submitted her assignments at IUST and reached bus stand Tral where she died.
By Thursday evening people reached her residence in Chatrigam village and took part in her last rites. Muslim men and women were seen wailing and crying. "So tragic, the perpetrators must be brought to justice, and may the departed soul rest in peace," says Abdul Rashid Dar, a local shopkeeper who cried while narrating the virtuous nature of Pinky.
Surrounded by thick walnut trees, Chatrigam village is 6 kms from main town Tral. On Friday people from all walks of life visited Chatrigam to sympathise with the bereaved family.
The people were collectively demanding for a CBI enquiry in the killing of two civilians. They allege that after the grenade blast, government forces showered Pinky with pellets. “As we were performing the snan (bath) of Pinky we found hundreds of pellets on her body. She was ruthlessly attacked with pellets as if she was a stone pelter,” says her uncle S S Bali.
Pinky Kour and another civilian Ghulam Nabi Trag (60) were killed on Thursday when a grenade was hurled on the cavalcade of Public Works minister Nayeem Akhter.
Pinky’s uncle Jarnail Singh regrets that the minister did not utter a single word against the forces who fired pellets. “It is shameful and condemnable that Nayeem Sahib admired forces for showing maximum restraint and maintained criminal silence over the use of pellets by forces,” he added.
The family of Pinky Kour is distraught. “Why doesn’t anyone resolve this Kashmir dispute once for all? Today it is my daughter, tomorrow it could be someone else,” her father Richpal Singh laments.
Richpal, a retired employee of J&K Minerals Limited says that he expected nothing from the government but demands a CBI enquiry in his daughter’s death.
“I saw forces showering pellets and bullets on the people who were lying injured on road,” says Pinky’s cousin Jai Krishan Bal Singh.
Pinky’s batch mates along with IUST officials visited her residence.
