What's new

Toyota's New Model: The Mirai

Based on the Prius. Does that mean it will handle like one too? I'm in the market for a new car, currently driving an Audi Q5, but I want something smaller. I've got my name on the list for a Tesla Model S (the government subsidies for owning an electric car make it an attractive option for me), so I'll see how that goes - for a few years, but if I doesn't work out I might try something from Asia instead.

I work outside of Sandefjord, weather permitting I actually fly (via a company Piper Meridian) rather than drive to work (2 1/2 hour drive - I leave my house at 5, get to work by 9), but the weather doesn't typically cooperate:(.

What would you suggest as far as Asian car designs are concerned? I'm open to American cars too.

First of all, very nice taste in cars. The Audi Q5 is sleek and I'm also quite fond of Deutsche models... ;)

Well if you like the Q5 and are considering the Tesla S, then you might like the following

These cars will sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars 20 years from now. Take the case of Mclaren F-1, during it's production time, it was used to cost at around $700,000, now best of luck finding one for less than $4-5 million.A well kept Jaguar E type fetches more than $100,000 in the market.

These hand build legacies needs to be passed on to the next generation.

Yea, but Mclaren f1 is one off car...a true under dog legend that proved it's mettle at Le Mans. It was the car that allowed Mclaren to have a full fledged road car business today, Mclaren cashed in on the F1 pedigree.

Rowan Atkinson sold his twice wrecked Mclaren F1 for 8 million GBP !!

A 5-6 years old Aston Martin has already depreciated by around 50-60%, and the downside potential is very less. Hence it can be a good buy around this time, another timeless beauty is Maserati Granturismo.

Pricing
The 2016 Toyota Mirai will be priced at $57,500. While the price does seem steep, tax credits could bring the price down to a more manageable $45,000.

Range
The Mirai will get a range of 312 miles. That's pretty darn good. And fueling will be easy, as you'll be ably to type in a passcode into a hydrogen dispenser which will release roughly 5 kg of compressed hydrogen into the Mirai's tanks. One kg of hydrogen will net around 60 miles. The best part? Hydrogen will be free for the first three years of ownership. That's three years worth of free fuel, folks.

Warranty
The Mirai also features a comprehensive warranty and owner service package, including three years worth of complimentary fuel, three years of 24/7 customer call support and a generous 8-year/100,000-mile warranty on key fuel cell vehicle components. For more details on the coverage, visit the official Toyota's Mirai FAQ page.

Release Date
If you're interested in a Mirai, Toyota has officially opened the Mirai customer request portal. That being said, the Mirai will initially only be available for sale in certain parts of California. The first samples will hit roads in October of 2015. We can't wait.

Thanks:ashamed:. My parents bought it for me last year, but the damn things too wide for some of the roads here... and I Iove the car:angry:, it's not even that wide!!!!! It's 74.7", only an inch and a half wider that the Lexus LS, but that does make a difference on our narrow roads. No guard-rails on a lot of country roads, so being too wide and trying to maintain a safe distance from oncoming traffic means you'll likely end up in a ditch:hitwall:.

Oh, and reindeer don't make things easier either:

Our roads are weird, many of them start as multi-lane, but they tend to transition into single lane really quick, and sometimes with tree cover, tall or wide cars get buffeted by branches. I got snow poured onto my windshield earlier this year when I hit a low hanging branch.

80km max speed for safety. My Audi is just too big right now. Unsafe passing on roads like this:

Throw in heated seats and you've got yourself a deal:cheers:. I like the interior. Bad mileage though, only 23 MPG:o:. The Model S is looking at around 102 MPGe. Add in the electric car ownership subsidies the Norwegian government offers, and the Model S is looking good.

That interioro_O. Needs different seats, I don't like how the Model S looks inside:

And yes, its a lot of SUV, hahaha. I like big things, so , ehehehe. ;)

Living in the 'US for a while now I kinda got Americanized in my tastes...

And yes, a tank is perfect for the snow, LOL. I wonder if its a good way to impress a girl? hmm...

Oh I drive a simple Toyota Corolla Altis - Nothing as big as you guys are driving ! :)

Besides I am not into cars or bikes ! :undecided:

And I've always been somewhat, I wouldn't say intimidated but certainly uncomfortable with big cars; I used to drive my cousin's Land Cruiser and an aunt's Pajero for a few months - I never got used to it.

Come to think of it some dumbo grazed the side of the car's front bumper today ! :pissed:
