Tourism to India a question.

Why is there a lack of tourism to India? India has so many UNSECO world heritage site and it should be among the top 10 countries for tourism , but yet it is languishing at the bottom.

Is it the violence against women? Lack of infrastructure? Or basic hygiene?

When i was in India I was shocked at the way India treated beautiful place with a lack of respect, throwing rubbish everywhere etc. What are your thoughts?

not healthy to generalize the entire country. this may be true for north india due to its turbulent past where violence against anyone (not just women) are far more likely, a characteristic shared by its younger sibling, pakistan. the other 2 factors hold true for most of the country, although some south indian states like kerala are A Grade tourist destinations.

to answer your question, the only indians interested in promoting tourism are the ones who directly benefit from it, which i imagine are not many
