You do realise that Chinese only brought CPEC to Pakistan after General Raheel Sharif's guarantees? Otherwise the Chinese were fed-up of Uigher being Trained in Waziristan and Chinese staff being kidnapped by every Baloch tom dick and harry for ransom?
While Civil government in Pakistan can come and go anytime, Army is a reliable and permanent Institution on which international players can rely.
It will take decades for the Civilian governments to build trust in the international community. -

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, whose counterpart is our Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi -- directly called GHQ, bypassing the foreign office, and the Prime Minister office and had a conversation with the Army Chief a day after they assassinated the Iranian General.

Two days later, US Secretary of Defence Mark Esper, whose counterpart is our Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, broke protocol and directly opened a line with GHQ and talked to the Army Chief Gen. Bajwa.

I raised the same points and was dismissed as stupid, etc.

But the harsh truth is, despite the facade of civilian supremacy and democracy... when the shit hits the fan, you don’t want to be talking to the King’s court jesters or lower level advisors, you take the issue directly to the big cheese himself or his main advisor for that role. Every other country it’s FMs or PMs, in Pakistan they call the army.

That’s what’s happened here.

And assuredly, that is the page that is dictated at certain points by the military.

Same page doesn't mean that the Civilian Government should face humiliation like this. Why do you have a Foreign Office and a Minister when other countries' Foreign Minister/Secretaries are going to call GHQ?

It’s only a humiliation if the civilian government was supreme, since it isn’t, what’s there to be humiliated about? In this case Pompeo dumped the facade of civilian supremacy in order to speak urgently with the main authority.

I feel relieved that at least some Pakistanis think and feel this way. For far too long, the leaders of Pakistan have been chosen in Washington DC. Who looted and plundered Pakistan's wealth, all the while, bowing to the wishes of their masters in Washington DC. Funny thing those barking about lack of civilian supremacy are those people who worship the Sharifs who have grown up on the laps of army general and are ever ready to lick boots.
