Don't you think there is something essentially wrong with a society that has a person whose income is 30 billion dollars while 300 million of his countrymen live on less than 365 dollars in a year? This is nothing to be proud about. We should be ashamed. In fact this kind of stat kind of makes me sick.
Nmesis, the problem you raised is a valid one of eradicating poverty, and nobody can dispute it. Its essentially a question of how.
We tried a different path for 4 decades, and poverty remained where it was. Now we are trying capitalism, and the povery situation has actually improved, the govt can afford employment guarantee schemes because of the resurgent economy. the job of industrialists is to create wealth and the govt to tax them and use that money towards creating a humane state. Let the industrialist do their bit and let the govt do theirs.
The successful industrialists are our heroes indeed, they are successful, lets not condemn them just because they are successful, there are many who failed, but their failure did not automatically reduce poverty, only added to it.
