Groupe Renault and Al-Futtaim last November announced that they had signed definitive agreements for the exclusive assembly and distribution of Renaultvehicles in Pakistan.

According to the deal, Groupe Renault would bring its latest products and technological know-how, whilst Al-Futtaim, through its new subsidiary called Al-Futtaim Automotive Pakistan (Private) Limited, will establish a new manufacturing and assembly plant, and exclusively distribute Renault cars through its extensive knowledge of the market.

As per the initial agreement, the parties expected that the plant will be built starting the first quarter of 2018 in Karachi as per Groupe Renault standards and car sales are planned to start in 2019 ramping up in 2020.

GA Bhutto.

Car assembly = / = car manufacturing.

And every Pakistani should just read this:

Some outside company has more knowledge of Pakistan's automarket than Pakistanis themselves.

Renault has global tie-up with Nissan. This makes them quite big. it means that Nissan with not come to Pak.

Indian is one of few countries in world where both brands exists and do production as well as export.

Something's better than nothing. Electricity in Pak is still too unreliable for players to establish manufacturing facilities as well, only to find out the next government decided it had other priorities. Assembly will likely turn to manufacturing at some point if greater electricity security is established, especially as China's labor costs continue to rise making other Asian markets like Vietnam, India or Pakistan more attractive.

Thank you PPP and MQM for giving up this wonderful investment to Faisalabad. Karachi could have used it but thanks to your mandatory kickbacks program, Faisalabad will get it.

I just want that Pak-Suzuki monopoly to end.
It's so embarrassing to be driving around in a 40 year old car when the rest of the world is driving the latest cars.

And the kicker? These Mahrans are not that much cheaper than modern cars, but they are death traps.

Sir even base model Civic is considerably more expensive in Pakistan as it is in Canada. 2018 Honda Civic base model in Canada is about $17,000 while in Pakistan the same 2018 base model is about Rs. 25 lacs which when converted to Canadian is about $28,000. Also keep in mind the build quality of the same Civic is alot worse in Pakistan than Canada.

This is daylight robbery..... but Pakistanis are happy with it because "resale achi dehti hai"

. .
I hope that they'll bring serious competition.
