China's population is too large, and the mountains, uninhabited areas, deserts, plateaus, and alpine regions are not suitable for human habitation. The remaining land needs to be developed for industry, agriculture, and aquaculture. ecology. . . . You can't live in several-story buildings and villas in urban construction. There is only so much land, so building high-rise buildings also saves land.To be perfectly honest, I am not a big fan of these mega skyscrapers. They're energy inefficient and waste a lot of water. Please they make cities look generic.
Supply of housing is not an issue. We currently have an oversupply of housing units with a population about to go into decline. That's why all of these developers are going down and the economy is doing poorly. The problem has always been distribution.China's population is too large, and the mountains, uninhabited areas, deserts, plateaus, and alpine regions are not suitable for human habitation. there's no oversupply in tier 1 cities. in fact, there's a massive shortage.Supply of housing is not an issue. There is more to China than a few tier 1 cities. Trying to pack everyone into them drains resources and talents from other regions. Already some regions in China are facing shortage of young talents and massive pension problem for an aging population.there's no oversupply in tier 1 cities. in fact, there's a massive shortage.
talents flock to where there are jobs. and companies who create those jobs flock to places where talent is. talent is wasted if it's not gathered. There is more to China than a few tier 1 cities. Sure, but you should also realize that rural areas and smaller cities are getting drained of their young, and China still needs to deal with the social/economical problems associated. In 10 years, China is going to face a massive cliff.talents flock to where there are jobs. and companies who create those jobs flock to places where talent is. talent is wasted if it's not gathered.
you should also realize that young people are wasted if they stay in rural areas. cities are the most efficient places to make use of young talent. just give up on the rural areas. move everyone to the cities and leave it to the robots to do the farming.Sure, but you should also realize that rural areas and smaller cities are getting drained of their young, and China still needs to deal with the social/economical problems associated. That's the most ridiculous notion possible. Underemployment and unemployment is very high among Gen Z in China, especially in large cities. You are aware that young generations are laying flat or choosing not to have kids because they see no hope in their future right? A few tier 1 cities will not be able to provide a job for all. You are essentially asking the country to sacrifice most of its regions for a few bright spots. Evenly distributed development is the key forward, not concentration of resources into the hands of few regions. That's the way to destabilization of society.you should also realize that young people are wasted if they stay in rural areas. cities are the most efficient places to make use of young talent. just give up on the rural areas. move everyone to the cities and leave it to the robots to do the farming.

That's unhealthyThere's also telecommuting and using virtual desktops. The company I work for has offices/people all over the world and the company never sleeps. I have meetings with people at 10am and 10pm.
say you want to be an aerospace engineer. what the hell are you going to do in some backwater village? Now you're moving the goal post. The issue is megacities draining regions around them. You make it sound like Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities are backwater villages. In any case, going by your ideas, China is going to end up with a few megacities while the rest of the country decays. See the economic and social stagnation of Japan in the past 3 decades? That is what is going to happen.say you want to be an aerospace engineer. what the hell are you going to do in some backwater village?
