After been Snubbed by Russia on its effort to procure long-range air defense systems like S-300 and S-400 Air defense missile system, Pakistan is now reportedly setting its focus on procuring FD-2000 long-range air defence requirements from its old friend China and has expressed its desires to procure three to four FD-2000 long-range SAM systems to counter India’s Purchase of S-400 Systems from Russia.

HQ-16-based LY-80 medium-range (MR) surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems which Pakistan previously procured from China has a range of only 42km but with induction of FD-2000, Pakistani forces will have the ability to track and target aerial threats up to 125km.

FD-2000 reportedly also has the ability to intercept cruise missile, air-to-ground missile and stand-off precision-guided bomb. FD-2000 which is a reversed engineered, knock-off of old Russian S-300 system is still nowhere close to the range and performance of S-300 let alone of more modern S-400 system but it does represent a major step for the Pakistani military to engage target over 100km.

The S400 has been purchased to neutralise all of Pakistans AEW&C assets and it will be v.v.v effective in that. The AEW&C were massive force multipliers for PAF, and now they have been cut short. A good purchase by IAF.

India's AEW&C assets could be also neutralised through the procurement of a system with similar specs to the S400 series, but the FD-2000 is not that system.

The S400 amplifies India's AEW&C effect on PAF while taking away PAF's advantage in that space which is more than what IAF has.

So, PAF getting a similar system to "match" the other syste will essentially take IAF AEW&C off the table and make things equal as far as AEW&Cs go.

No dude. Its purpose is mostly conventional. Its meant to allow India to perform strikes against Pakistan without reprisals. Maybe India will invest in the S500 which is geared towards shooting down SRBM/MRBMs..etc.

no S-400 is basically for intercepting SRBM/MRBM but it has additional capabilities of intercepting ISR plate-forms/fighter jets etc etc but S-500 is basically intended for IRBM/ICBM intercepting, similar to US mid course missile defense @Ali_Baba

When did Pakistan ask Russsia to purchase S400? And Russia denied in response? Care to provide proof or is it just more unsubstantiated idiotic Indian media shit?

Russia sold S400 to both China and India...both enemies. Russia sold S400 to Turkey...a NATO member with which Russia has had a difficult relationship due to Cold War and NATO acting as a hedge against USSR. Even Turkey shooting down a Russian fighter jet recently didn't stop that sale. Russia also sold S300 to Iran...a country that the US and other major powers tried to isolate and sanction. This goes to show that Russia will sell its S300 and S400 to any country...no matter if it's sanctioned(Iran)...no matter if it doesn't enjoy close relations with Russia(Turkey)...and no matter that country's geopolitical conflict or differences with other countries(China/India).
