Nothing wrong with our own spoken language Bangla or Bengali which was patronized by Muslim rulers of Bengal since 1200 AD as the language of common people, as opposed to emphasis on Sangskrit, by some previous Hindu rulers. Although I think Buddhist dynasties had similar attitudes like the later Muslim rulers about promotion of Bengali as the language of the masses.
But lately since 1947, obsession with mother tongue has been a political tool of RAWamy League in their fake Bengali Nationalism strategy among East Bengal Bengali's to break Pakistan and then they abolished English medium instruction and testing from Bangladesh. The result has been the reduction of English skills by whole generations of Bangladeshi's since 1971. So while India used English skills to bring in service related outsourcing business, Bangladesh lagged behind because of this RAWamy stupidity.
So it is not surprise that these language obsessed idiots are contemplating spending money on something that will hurt Bangladesh more than it will help us. How does making Bangla a UN official language help Bangladesh economy?
Once these RAWamy traitors are defeated, I would like to see English medium schools and testing reinstated, along with basic computer skills, so we could bring our population from isolation and give them some skills so they can market themselves in world market. Once we have sufficient English skills, I would also recommend changing official language of Courts and govt. offices to English, so it is easier for foreign investors to invest and do business in Bangladesh.
