I used to have zero sympathy for the Rohingya originally. Based on what I had read about them and the by now normal of a Muslim populace unable to live in peace with the larger non Muslim one in a non Muslim dominant country. Seen of course against the backdrop of what we know about the converse fate of non Muslims in Muslim dominant countries.

That lack of empathy and sympathy reduced further from zero to deep into the negative when I read that the Rohingya were not only targeting the Buddhist Burmese, but they were actually indulging in large scale arson, rape and killing of the much smaller Hindu populace in Myanmar. A veritable genocide in its own right. As attested to by many Hindu survivors from there.

More than 60 houses in a predominantly Hindu village in the Maungdaw district of Myanmar's Rakhine state were gutted by fire on Thursday in an apparent act of negligence, a local community leader told RFA’s Myanmar Service.

The blaze left more than more than 600 residents of Ngakura village homeless, said Ni Maul, a Hindu social worker and local community leader.

Maungdaw township's administrator has provided rice and other food to the victims, and a Hindu civil society organization has gone to the village to provide on-the-ground assistance, he said.

“It occurred because of someone’s negligence,” Ni Maul said about the fire. “More than 600 people are staying at the village school.”

RFA could not reach Maungdaw authorities for comment.

Maungdaw, along with neighboring Buthidaung and Rathedaung townships, was the focal point of a brutal crackdown by the Myanmar military against Rohingya Muslims that began late last August following a deadly attack by a Muslim militant group.

Thousands of Rohingya, who comprise the majority ethnic group in Maungdaw, were killed in the violence, and nearly 700,000 others fled to safety in neighboring Bangladesh where they live in sprawling displacement camps.

Hindus and other non-Muslims residing in northern Rakhine at the time of the crackdown have accused members of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), the militant group that conducted attacks on police outposts northern Rakhine on Aug. 25, of invading their villages and driving out or killing residents.

Local Hindus, including Ni Maul, and the Myanmar government in late September said ARSA militants detained nearly 100 people from several Hindu villages in the Kha Maung Seik village tract on the same day that the attacks occurred, killed most of them, and dumped their corpses in mass graves.


The militants also forced the young Hindu women to convert to Islam and took them to a Muslim refugee camp in Bangladesh.

Other Hindus fled to Bangladesh or to other parts of Rakhine state to escape the violence.

As part of a repatriation program for those who fled to Rakhine state during the violence, Bangladesh in February sent Myanmar a list of 8,032 refugees who indicated that they wanted to return voluntarily to Rakhine state.

So far, Myanmar officials have verified some 500 Rohingya refugees as eligible for return as well as about 400 Hindu refugees who also fled to Bangladesh from northern Rakhine and had been approved for return prior to the issuance of the list, Myint Thu, permanent secretary of Myanmar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told RFA last week.

According to Myanmar's 2014 census, Hindus make up only 0.5 percent of the country's population, whereas 88 percent of the people identify as Buddhist and 4.3 percent as Muslim.

our national verification system is not based on religion. if they dont have NVC or other national cards , they also had to go under national verification process. there is no exception.

Another thing... this kind of statement are made by certain ngo's to get more money from donors. There are more than 700k rohingya refugees are there. No one get any special privilege that hindu Rohingyas did not get.

Regarding your query why they did not say it at the Rohingya camp? They said it after 2 weeks when Myanmar Government offered them land, house and job. They even said it to the so called NGO as well which was quoted by Norway Times.

Regarding Norway Times it has no fault, it just quoted a random unknown NGO and this kind of NGO spread this kind of news to get money from donor. Otherwise no sane NGO would have said that muslim Rohingyas are getting more attention when 700k+ were fled and hindus were less than .1% of the number of refugees who fled the genocide.

Let me be blunt here.

The Muslim belief system has an institutionalized deep rooted insecurity that manifests as a complete lack of respect and intolerance for other faiths and ideas.

This remains in their homes and mosques when they are small in numbers.

It spills out and becomes increasingly overt when their numbers increase.

Where they start becoming more aggressive about their beliefs and rigid about their way of doing things regardless of the the local customs. More insular and cut off from the rest of the populace. Totems of dress become increasingly evident. And the frictions and violence start.

As the numbers go up even further, ghettos give way to localities and eventually entire neighborhoods. Even small villages and towns. Non Muslims either leave or are forced to sell out and move. Property consolidation happens. Clear unmarked boundary lines are set in place by banners and flags and the building of mosques.

Eventually these areas become no go zones. Even for the machinery of the state, forget the local populace. Its own administration and own set of rules. A parallel society.

This happens and is seen all over the world. Not only in India or Myanmar. It happens in the West as well. And the world has woken up to it and has begun to push back.

Bottom line. You are fewer in number. And you have little to no political or military clout internationally. You will need to learn how to coexist.

India limits Afghan visas they have togo back and return due to visa issues. But in Pakistan they go arouind freely. Even today most Afghans only work in Afghanistan and live in Pakistan with their families like Afghanistan Cricket Captain Mohammed Shahzad. Pakistan has strategic depth in Afghanistan not because of its occupation but due to Afghan dependency on Pakistan for everything.

How India treats Pakistani and Bangladeshi Hindus, how they restrict their movement and live in isolated compounds in Jodhpur camps with no access to electricity or water.

There are many Pakistani members in this forum that have said all kinds of things about Afghans, esp the illegals that have settled and spread drug culture and other things into Pakistan.....and have suggested way worse things for them than I ever have (i.e gather them, contain them and deport them).

I dunno why you are so upset at a very conventional and mainstream suggestion I made regarding Afghan illegals (and also BD illegals etc) in Pakistan? If you feel some have integrated well and provide "strategic depth" into Afghanistan in return, then you are free to legalise them (as permanent residents/citizens etc). I have personally encountered Afghans in the West who arrived with Pakistani nationality and ID cards but enjoyed the fact that suicide bombings targeted Pakistanis.

Now I'm not going to pass a blanket judgement on all Afghans but I would have no problem putting such people who cause crime and violence in my country into concentration camps and then send them back from where they or their parents came from.
