JAIPUR: A day after a few Muslim bodies warned the organizers of Jaipur Literature Festival against inviting four authors who read out from a book of Salman Rushdie last year, the BJP on Monday warned against the participation of Pakistan-based writers at the fest.
The work of seven Pak authors including Jamil Ahmad (The Wandering Falcon) and Mohammed Hanif (Our Lady of Alice Bhatti), are shortlisted for the 2013 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature.
The two were also part of JLF last year. However, due to the present tension at Indo-Pak border following the beheading of two Indian soldiers, the state unit of BJP has decided to oppose the presence of these writers. The BJP's youth wing, Yuva Morcha, has warned these authors against attending the fest.
"We will not allow them to enter the festival venue. There is no question of welcoming the Pak authors here at a time when their country has disrupted peace at the border,'' said Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha state president Rishi Bansal.
Senior party leaders too said that it was considering a protest march to oppose the participation of Pak authors. The other writers from Pakistan attending the fest are Fahmida Riaz, M A Farooqi, Nadeem Aslam, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Ameena Saiyid.
Earlier this month, protests by the BJP's youth wing had led to the cancellation of a play based on the life of Sa'adat Hasan Manto, which was part of the National School of Drama festival. The police had to escort 'Ajoka,' the theatre group from Pakistan out of the state capital following the protests.
However, the organisers insisted that there was no threat to any authors and that the Pak-based writers would participate as planned. "All sessions would be held as per schedule in the presence of all guest authors,'' said Sanjoy Roy producer of the festival. Meanwhile, senior police officers have said to have assured the organisers safety of these writers.
On the other hand, reacting to the warning issued by some Muslim groups, Sanjoy Roy said: 'I have not received threat from any hardliner groups...............writers were on their way to the country. Let's people speak to real Muslim intellectuals for the real picture."
Sajid Sehrai, an Islamic scholar who was among the panel which issued the warning said: "Repeated attacks by writers on Islam and Prophet Mohammad without knowing real facts is no less than an attempt to disturb Muslims across the globe."
However, on the rumour of Rushdie's likely visit to JLF, the groups maintained that, 'Our stand will never change on Rushdie'
"If they still stand firm (four writers) on controversial writer Salman Rushdie...lets come for a discussion and win an argument with us before hurting comments in public."

and secondly HELL YEA call them all Back!! we dont want them to be there anywayz! i really dont know why our people are so STUPID, indias real face is right infront of us and we are still behaving as if its nothing,,,,, i think its totally our fault we have been so kind towards india all these years, now i think it is time realize our mistakes!
